There are a bunch of other HD cameras similar to the Contour HD. I am currently in the market (still researching), but I haven't found any that have a rail mount. They are geared for the sports/adventure/racing crowd. You can get a VGA(640x480) camera for <$100 now. The HD cameras are $200+ and slightly larger than the VGA cams, but I think I would be disappointed that I didn't shell out for the beautiful 1080p vids.

Tops brands are:
Epic
Oregon Instruments
GoPro
VholdR

Some are waterproof and some require a plastic case.

I am in the process of building a gun cam mount and have a working concept...right now, will be building the actual prototype soon...hope to get it out after I get a patten on  it...
Would something like this be what you are looking for....It uses a standard camera or video camera......

I've used a ContourHD for about a year now.  It works okay on a rifle as long as you don't have it too near the muzzle which I've found causes some cutting out on my braked rifle.  I cut up an old A.R.M.S. mount to secure mine.

However, I've found that I MUCH prefer having the camera mounted on my earpro.  It removes any issues with distortion and give a better overall field of view.  If you use muffs to hunt with, this might be an option.  This works pretty well for relatively close targets but might not be as good as a gun mount if you are shooting at some distance.

I've used the Oregon Instruments ATC3K.  Wherever I got it from had a ring that allowed it to attach right to my rail.
Worked ok too....
