While cleaning my AR-15, I noticed that the bottom of the bolt carrier has a series of ridges.  These look like a row of serrations perpendicular to the length of the BCG.  I'd guess they are chatter marks left during machining.  Since the BCG rides against the face of the hammer to reset it, shouldn't the bottom of the BCG be smooth?

If it's on the ramp it's going to cause undue wear on your hammer.

If it's on the rails it might wear your upper.

Stupid question: how do I upload a picture?
BTW, it is a Bushmaster BCG.

Have to host them to a photo hosting site first.

It supposed to be a 63 finish.  That is about as fine a finish as you can get with out resorting to grinding, you may see some tool marks, but normally they will be hidden by the bead blasting and the phosphate coating....

Hard to tell from the pic, but I'd put it between the 6.3 and 12.5.  I've put several thousand rounds through it and some of the phosphate coating has worn off.  I guess that's why I'm just now noticing this.

Several of my BCGs had these marks. They don't now.
