I know it may seem like a stupid question.  But are there drum magazines for the AK-74 like the AK-47?

Then were experimental and there are verry few if any here in the states. If you could find them they would be at an auction for a few thousand bucks.

The highest capacity AK-74 magazine most of us will ever own is probably a standard double stack 45rd magazine.  The Russians did produce a quad stack 60rd magazine, and a drum magazine of some capacity.  I have only ever seen one 60rd magazine for sale.  Someone bid $900 and it didn't break the auctions reserve.

Could an AK-47 drum be used or is the OAL of the 5.45 to long?

I have never put to much thought into it, but someone might be able to make it work.  You would definately have to modify the feedtower at the very least.

Little O/T, wasn't there a guy on here working on a quad stack mag for the 47?

You used to be able to buy 40 rounders that folks made from two 30 round bakelite mags, epoxied together.  Had one, it worked well, but that long dangling mag pretty much gets in the way.

No 74 drums that I am aware of.

The AK-74 drum magazines do exist, but they may not have been put into production.

Yes, a member of Uzitalk.com is making 77rd AK-74 drums.

The same drum will work with a .223 AK as well.

I suppose those will be neat but I'd rather have the uniqueness of the Russian style.

About time...  Wondered how long it would take.  This is a proverbial money tree.

I don't think it is a money tree at the $295 each price point...maybe if they were $150 or so they'd sell a ton.

BarrelXchange's new 77round 5.45 drum is a hit!  I'm using an MGI modular lower w/ RDIAS, the AK-74 magwell, corrosive combloc ammo, Bulgarian AK-74 chrome lined barrel headspaced for the AR/M16 platform.
I don't work for BarrelXchange or have any affiliation, just a happy customer!

Funny, I asked this same question a few months ago mentioning you can get a beta mag for a Mini 14(!) why not a  drum for the 74? The consensus response was 'no need for a drum- use 40rnd mags'.....anyway I would consider that drum, for but only for 1/2 that price.
