I'd like to see what the setup looks like.

Not an AK, but I'll play anyway.  My M72 RPK with a POSP 4x24:

Simonov reticule calibrated for 7.62x39 with 400m range finder (range finder works on a 1m high target), $160ish from Kalinka or Eastwave

And a quick comparison with a Russian PSO-1 (top), Chinese 4x24 (middle) and POSP 4x24 (bottom)

Nice, the top one looks like what I had envisioned. How do you like the scope?

Actually I rarely use it, I bought it mainly to help answer questions like yours

I'm pretty much irons or red dots for AK's other than my 1P29 4x that I like a lot. I've used the PSO and POSP's for a long time on my NDM86 (sometimes on AK's too) and really enjoy them, as LM will also say I think the POSP is hands down one of the best values in optics you can get and they are well suited for AK's.
Never had any issues with the 6 or 8 POSP 4x24's or 8x42's that I've owned over the years, its just that for a while now I've really gotten into red dots for a variety of reasons.
