My practical Krink in 5.45 is finally done, all I am missing now is the Aimpoint H-1 and to get it refinished in GunKote.

Rifle is build on a Bulgy 5.45 kit with an Armory USA receiver, built by Elk River Tool and Die here in Houston. Samson type 3 for Bulgarian rail, Konus red dot on Stormwerkz rail, Dinzag modified safety, Vltor offset scout mount with G2 LED (230 lumin LED), SOG Armory single point sling and my homage to the original AKS-74U, bakelight pistol grip.

(What can I say, I'm a sucker for traditional )

On the technical/ergomical side I really like the Vltor location and how it puts the light for thumb activation. I had been previously using a TDI stubby grip on my SLR107UR which was comfy and helped with heat issues during sustained fire (the Samson gets HOT) but I am definately digging the new position...it's natural, comfortable and intuitive, my index finger just knows where to go automatically. (mistakenly said thumb, eta to correct)

Also liking the 230 lumin G2 but I don't think it's totally worth the $50 odd bucks for the upgrade. I wanted to try it since I already had a pair of G2 LED's but there are other lights people have posted on that are probably a better deal dollar for dollar.

The current Zen Family:

NDM86, Saiga 12, SLR105, Saiga 7.62 with PO 3.5x21p, AKS-74U, SLR107UR

I've got an appointment with East Bloc Imports to get the 7.62 Saiga and the Krink refinished, hopefully will be back sometime in October. Meanwhile I'm going to put an a$$load of rounds down the pipe before I send it off, I've already had it out once and loved it.
Been wanting a 5.45 Krink FOREVER and it's nice to finally have one.

Nice little family you got there! I like the mix of weapons. Your krink is looking good! I've got one and it continues to be my favorite shooter.

Here's my practical krink. I love using it in carbine classes.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, much appreciated. There is only one more rifle that I must have, the SGL31, I'm just not sure when I'll get one.
I may sell the 7.62 Saiga in the meantime, I'm just not that into 7.62x39 these days. Spoiled by the 5.45

Tyrv, on the 5.45 Krink thats a Russian bakelight, I bought it incase I decide to go traditional AKS-74U style (maybe with a set of the Avtomats In Action Krink laminates someday). I'm having a hard time getting away from rails for some reason, everytime I put something traditional on an AK I decide that I'd rather have a rail instead.

-X- what kind of chest rig is that? I've been practicing with my lifchik and like it, though I am open to anything that works.

And one with the izzy bakelight mag for good measure:

It is a Polish chest rig called a KC-6. It has served me well through several rifle classes. Tantal might have some in stock.

The features I like:
It holds six mags. There are 3 pouches and each holds two mags.
There is a divider in each pouch to separate the mags.
There is a flap that covers the mags.
The flap is secured by velcro with option of the snap buckle.
The shoulder straps are padded.
It is in woodland camo.

The features I dislike:
I don’t care much for the outside storage pouches. I would rather have a molle option on the side so that I could mount spare pistol mags and other gear.

If I buy another rig I was thinking about this one: http://eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=16207&cat=40&page=1

How do you like that Konus Red Dot?

X, sounds like the KC-6 is nicely designed around the 5.45 mag. I'd consider that for myself too if the lifchik doesn't workout (and thanks for the link to the Eagle one as well)

The lifchik is a fun vest and is useful for what it is but I wish it had more than 3 mag cells up front. Smash type mag changes out of the 3 cells are pretty quick if you insert them upside down, and I like the fit and positioning with loaded mags.

What's your opinion on quick mag changes with the KC-6?

I haven't zeroed it yet but so far I like the scopes quite a bit. Originally I bought a chinese knockoff of the T-1 to try out the Stormwerks rail concept before I committed to the real deal and I have been very impressed with the setup. Unfortunately the particular chinese knock off I have is a POS and won't stay lit during shooting but at least it proved the concept. I have an H-1 on order (don't see the need for the T-1 nigh vision compatibility) but I went ahead and got 2 Konus based on the reviews here on arfcom. One is for my 107UR and the other for my 105/Ultimak setup.

So far my impression of the features is:

Easy to mount (knob to tighten, not an allen wrench)
On/Off/Brightness on left side of scope
Nicely built body, bright dot, sturdy movement to dials and knobs.
Lifetime warranty and inexpensive

I really can't justify T-1's on everything I own but for $100 the Konus is a reasonable alternative. I'm going to try to hit the range tomorrow morning and zero for the 105 and 107UR. Based on what people have said here on the site I expect for them to be great little optics.
The 5.45 Krink is my go to gun and will be my carbine class rifle, everything else is just for plinking. (except the NDM which is a proven hog killer extroidanaire)

I have been very satisfied with my ability to perform quick mag changes with the vest.

SGT,

Here's a few better pics of the S12 magwell

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=64&t=119834

The magwell is Russian and I have the magwell mags for it. So far I've put about 90 rounds down the pipe from slugs to low brass and it's been 100% reliable. I attribute that mostly to using GunFixer's gas plug because the same S12 wouldn't cycle low brass with the OEM plug.
The mags are tight and don't drop free but they are easy to load, open or closed bolt. I'm really happy with it.
