What are some good rigs you have used?  What features do you look for?  Looking for something not overly bulky and preferably less than $100.  This would be used primarily at the range.  Thanks

Eagle Industries makes some AK based chest rigs for not too much money. The other option I am going for right now is a custom chest rig from Collin over at 762Tactical. He makes custom rigs that can range from ~$30.00 to up to ~$120.00.

What kind of mag pouch do people prefer?  Fastex buckle, bungee cord, snap, or just velcro?

+1 soon as I get a few bucks I'm going to have him make me a 3 mag rig for my 74 with 2 glock mag pouches.

Tactical Tailor in WA state has a real nice rig.  I was told by someone that this design was sent over to Afghanistan for their military / police:

Excellent quality.

The OSOE Micro AK Rig is nice and very high quality.  I bought it because I didn't need/want a full size rig and I am very happy with it.

+1 on 762 tactical.  Excellent rig.

Right now I'm using one for my FAL, and plan on getting one for my AK as well.

Yeah, basically get whatever Molle rig you prefer and add tacos. I am using a custom osoe rig with tacos for my ar, Galil, ak, ar-10 etc

Fastex is no good.  Slow to open, very slow to close.  Not good for quick reloads.

Bungee is good for getting the mag out fast.  Not sure how easy it is to put one back in one handed though.

Snaps are quick to open, slow to close.  NOt my first choice.

Velcro in my opinion is the way to go.  Not as fast as bungees, but they are closed and will keep crap out of your mags if you do any sort of crawling around.

Good points.  I was hesitant to go with just velcro because it wears out after a period of time.  Has that not been an issue with most rigs?  I have worn a Wilderness instructor belt for the last year.  The velcro still sticks, but it has started to fray up some.

Another vote for the OSOE Micro Rig - $95

Copied from another post I made yesterday:

OSOE Micro Rig  Available here and HERE with the folowing:
-Med Pouch with IFAK / VOK and 1 smoke
-Mag pouches that fit 4 AR or 4 AK mags - I run 7.62x39 AK mags and 5.45x39 mags out of this system.
-Zippered map / general purpose pouch behind everything where I keep maps, multitool, notebook / pen / emt shears and some other misc. gear.

The Micro rig is set up so that I can draw my handgun the same way every time - whether I'm CCWing or running a long gun.  No need to learn different drawstrokes or have to mess with retention devices ONLY when I'm running a long gun, etc. etc.

I have an older version of the Micro Rig - the newer current version has a few more features and some day I'll upgrade to it.

I can run slick level 3 armor with plates underneath the rig and still draw my CCW - it's a system that works for me.

Hope this helps
Mike

Crappy cell phone pics taken on pink styrofoam insulation.  Classy, I know:

Pull out med tray insert that fits in double M4 mag pouches - I put it in the Micro Rig's main med pouch.  Keeps things organized. Available HERE

I've got this Polish one that I picked up in the EE a few years ago for $65. Keep an eye out for something similar in the EE. You probably wont find these anymore, but people are always selling stuff that might work for you.

I know the product title says .223, but my AK mags fit perfectly in this chest rig.

Are there any drain holes on these pouches?  Triad Tactical right?

Yes, the pouches are triad, there are no drain holes. You could easily put some in but I don't feel the need.

Well, my plug always goes to Colin at 762Tactical.  Good prices, outstanding quality and he will customize it any way you want.
