Don't care to do it myself so what outfits have you folks used for your AKs? Would you recommend?

LTM Refinishing. This guy is a neighbor of mine and does absolutely amazing work. I haven't used anyone else for refinishing of any firearm.

Doing a krylon job yourself is liberating.

Plus it's easy to strip

I'll second the krylon. Having someone camo your gun for you kind of defeats the purpose- I think.

An oldie but goodie, SLR107UR with my favorite color scheme. I sold it to NinerRider in the photo but still love the way this turned out
Krylon tan base coat and Testors brown model paint through an airbrush for the brown pattern

Nice work there!

OP:  Look into Duracoat or Creakoat for the base-oat.  You can use a small paint gun or airbrush to apply this.   Surface prep (degreasing, cleaning, drying) is key but otherwise its just like painting a model (I build and paint models btw).  Once the basecoat is down, you can use cheaper model paints to add patterns and such.   Check out the refinishing Forum in the Armory Section for lots of tips, tricks and examples.

Start with a simple and inexpensive project, I did my Muzzleoader below this way:

<a href="http://s59.photobucket.com/user/toadwbg/media/CVA%20Optima%20camo/0AF2F80E-FC6C-4FCA-A05A-50DE35A45E8E-261-00000105D3799349.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g310/toadwbg/CVA%20Optima%20camo/0AF2F80E-FC6C-4FCA-A05A-50DE35A45E8E-261-00000105D3799349.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 0AF2F80E-FC6C-4FCA-A05A-50DE35A45E8E-261-00000105D3799349.jpg"/></a>

The Duracoat used there is a Coyote Brown I think but than I used Panzer colors out of Tamiya Acrylic Model paint to airbrush the camo colors.

Krylon and/or Rustoleum, it costs like $12, which includes the price of the stop at McDonald's on the way to Wal-Mart to get the spray cans

It's not permanent, so that makes it worth while in my opinion
