I have a Norinco Type 56S-2 side folder with traingle 66 markings 100XXX serial number. Barrel is marked "IA CO SAC CA"and "NORINCO 7.62MM China".  Good working condition but has wear and scratches on receiver and barrel from normal use, no rust and no major cosmetic damage. Folder locks up nice and tight tight, bolt is smooth and fires like any other quality AK.

I've read these are fairly rare and collectors are looking for these. Any idea of the current value?

Thanks in advance!

No you have the more common of the two. NIB all the goodies we tossed would be one to two thousand.

Shooters like that 600.00 to 1600.00 depending on how fast you want to get paid. You can go the preban route and put it in auction and get lucky too.
The rare bird is the Galil type folder.

Give me a minute and I post my beater.

Ok great thanks for the info! I may just end up keeping it. What is the best replacement to the bakelite handguard? it gets very hot after shooting.

A gloved hand is best. Find some like this at your local walmart or hardware store.

Otherwise you could buy Iron wood for the for end. The purists will hate you for it too.

You can easily get $1200+ for it.  Pre-89 rifles are valuable even if it's a shooter (as long as it's not beat up).  It's a true military rifle other than it's semi-auto.

Here is a picture of the one I used to have.
