And this will be the proof (or not) among thousands of kool aid drinkers, of how easy (or dificult) is for someone under "normal" circumstances, to get a Glock pistol to rust.
One simple rule. You have to OWN the pistol in the picture. We all know there's a bunch of pictures online, but do -you- own a rusty (even light surface rust) one? 
I've been shooting Glocks for 14 years now, and I have yet to see one in person. Let the games begin (this thread is going to be a short one )

Does rust on the sights of my carry gun count? Hint: I sweat so much I wear an under layer even in summer.

I have only seen rust on the small steel parts. I am pretty abusive to my daily carry and I am one of those guys with really nasty acidic sweat too.

They don't rust.
I have carried the same glock 19 for the last 15 years every day in sweaty Florida, on a boat 4-6 times per month in salt water and the only hint of rust is on the mag release where the paint is worn off. That wipes right off with an oily rag on the rare occasions I see it. |

Never seen it happen. I own two, have shot in the rain, and never seen a slide rust.
Once I had orange dirt on the slide....does that count??

I have a 23 thatI have carried everyday since Jan of 2000. I have shot it multiple thousands of rounds and sweated all over it without cleaning or even a wipe down and I have NO rust or any blemishes whatsoever. I find it hard to own other guns becuase I get resentful of all the lceaning and maintenance they take.

A friend of mine, who spurns Glocks, bought a CZ that had some rust. I told him I could fix it
overnight by putting it in a box with a Glock, it would repel the rust, and clean his gun. He was not amused. Over the years I have owned 10 or 11 Glocks, still have 3. No Rust. |

I've carried my G23 a lot in the humid southeast (and sweated a lot) over the last 7 years, and it has never rusted. My G22 has been sweaty, drenched in the rain, dropped in the mud, and fired around 1300 rounds without any cleaning or lubing...still no rust. I sweated on my G26 (carried in a Vanguard II) so much one day recently that it was dripping when I took it off - no rust. I've had some ugly, abused LEO trade in 2nd gens with very little finish left on the slide, and even those never rusted.

I have seen rusty glocks. My 19 rusted pretty badly when I forgot to clean if after running a few miles. I don't have any pictures of the rust, but I do have pictures of the pitting on the barrel after I cleaned the rust.
ETA: The slide also rusted on the surface, but I have no pictures. And after cleaning, you could see no evidence of the rust on the slide. Also, and I know this isn't what the OP asked for, I do know of a few officers in my area who let their G22s rust pretty badly. |

I used to carry an early G27 in the overhead radio box of my center console when fishing both salt and fresh water. The gun got salt water on it on more than one occasion and I'd just hose it off fresh water then with WD40 at the end of the day. It got dunked in fresh water on several occasions also and still looked fine when I sold it. Of course I've still got the S&W 686 that was my boat and swamp gun before the Glock and it still doesn't have any rust either but I was diligent about cleaning it whereas I wasn't nearly so thorough with the Glock.

I have sweated my 19 so bad the mag well was full of sweat around the magazine. The steel looks great, the black is getting thin in the usual spots from holster wear. I keep a good oil film on the internals. However, I strip the outside of the gun with denatured alcohol after reassembly. I want it to be as tacky as possible. I tried grip tape, but it wont stay put on the gun.
Rust or no rust depends heavily on the body chemistry of the user. I am not a ruster at all. I can leave finger prints on in the white steel for days without rust forming. A good friend of my is a ruster supreme, his finger prints will be etched into even some stainless steels over night. When he handles firearms he has to immediately wipe them down with an oiled rag. When he bled on his 1100 it was not quite as spectacular an effect as Alien blood, but it was close. |

Any blood on steel will cause rusting. It has nothing to do with individual body chemistry.

I remember a thread back on Glocktalk a while back where a G22 (or some police service pistol) was found in a storm drain after quite a few years.
Was not pretty at all.

Only seen once but it was a completely neglected Glock but it was also only on small parts not barrel or slide. Pistol was a G27 one of the first ones ever released look like and it never had been cleaned but hardly fired. My good friend bought it from his uncle he just kind of left it in a drawer took it salt water fishing or wherever as his personal defense weapon. When we got it the slide stop was bent to shit but the pistol still ran and never hiccuped. We ended up replacing the rusted parts and refurbishing it and it still runs to this day.

I've only ever seen one Glock that had been rusted. It was a very early model with a two-letter prefix to the serial number. It wasn't rusty at the time that I saw it but you could see where it had been rusted enough to be pitted. That's the closest I've come to a rusty Glock.

My G20 had a trigger bar with surface rust, out of the box. It was enough to cause problems with the trigger resetting
 It's been fine since I polished and lubed it though.

I understand that this will mean little to people without photos, but I have seen one Glock 22 Gen 2 with a T-I-N-Y amount of rust on the slide at/in/around the rear sight dovetail. It was the first-ever Glock I've seen with rust on it, and is still the only one to this day that I've ever handled.
It was a used PD trade-in gun, I want to say from St. Louis MO..? Maybe Detroit? I don't remember the city. I do remember that it had the engraved PD badge on the slide. I received and transferred it to a customer back in 2006 or early 2007. Mike |

I dont have a picture but, I used a Glock 22 on a boat for 8 years and the only rust I ever saw was around the rear sight. It cleaned right off with a little clp. I dont think the rust was from the gun but rather from that little metal piece on the backside of the sight base.Never saw any other rust on the gun and it required only monthly wipe downs with a litle oil.

I carried my G26 underwater at Pensacola beach for memorial day this year. Don't ask why I carried underwater, weird stuff happens at the beach on memorial day and its not the sharks either.
Anyway, I only got a light amount of rust that was easy to remove and the stuff that won't come off is around the small parts. Taggage for pics whenever I get around to it. |

  Gunmonkey can rust any pistol. This is my G26 and I have to keep it coated in some kind of rust inhibiting oil or my acidic sweat will pit the finish. Y'all should see what I did to a KelTec P11 and my ParaOrdnance P10. I sold the P7M8 because I thought it would be a sin to ruin so nice a gun.

HTR. Yup sure was ... sold it last winter to a bud of mine . Rust developed a few years ago one summer , edc weapon at the time during that summer I neglected to check it for about three weeks , pretty much carried 24 / 7 .... Sweated profusely at work during the daytime hours / auto salvage work ... Carried in leather holster next to skin under t shirt .... By no means am I bashing Glock .... I still have a safe full
