Both 9mm. The 239 is more $$$ and seems like a larger frame. The 938 with rubber grips would be more concealable.

THIS WOULD BE MY FIRST SIG

Went with the P239 Gen2 SAS!

In my opinion its comparing apples to oranges. The 239 is bigger but is a DA/SA trigger. No manual safety. The 938 is "basicly" a mini 1911 in 9mm. The 938 is a SA only gun. Has manual safety. So which type does your wife like or can use safely?  Basicly does she want to carry a 226 type gun or a 1911 type gun? I like the size and feel of the 938 my self but I wish they made it with a DA/SA trigger or DAK trigger. Its just what I am use to.

Get a P239 and add some Crimson Trace laser grips to it. It'll be the last concealed carry pistol she'll ever have to buy.

And don't bother with 9mm - get it in .40 S&W, or even better, in .357 Sig. A single center of mass hit in .357 Sig beats a 9mm double tap every day of the week.

Seriously  A .357 sig leaves a .355 +expanse hole just like a 9mm does.  9mm works well and is easier to shoot quickly.  I'll take the 9mm in almost every situation.

I prefer single action triggers, so I would get the 938.  It's also extremely small and easy to conceal.  My wife has the P238 and it is a great shooter.

Get her the 239. No safety or single action trigger to manipulate under stress.
Point it, pull the trigger, it goes bang.
Then take her out and teach her to shoot it.

I agree with this, if it were a carry gun for me I would consider the .357 sig. I've never manipulated the DA/SA of a Sig,I'm used to the HK DA/SA so I would imagine it's similar. I think the 239 is 10lbs/4.5lbs. I'm not sure I want her carrying the 938 cocked and locked. Since i've been looking I've leaned towards the 239. Haven't held either yet, plan on doing that this week.

Let her try both and go w/the one that *she* likes best. That's how we ended up w/my wife's Sig P238 (which she loves, other pistols not so much).

I know its not a 9mm, but I just bought my wife the sig P238.  Sweet gun with low recoil.  She has a problem with her wrist where she can't rack my XD 9mm, and she can do this one with no problem

I have both, (err the 239 is the wife's gun.) Yes the 239 is larger by quite a bit but it fits the hand better and has less recoil plus is DA/SA if that's a plus for you; the 938 is SA and is meant to be carried Condition-1. Depends on how you plan to carry it, the 938 is smaller and can fit in a pocket rig easily if you have bulky pockets plus it weighs less. The trigger on my 938 is a healthy 9lbs, or there abouts, and while it's smoothed out it doesn't match the crispness or precision of the 239's. Again, they're two entirely different purpose gun. For what it is, the 938 is a great deep-concealment gun...it is not a 'range gun.' The 239 is a great carry gun that is a fun range gun. Note both my 938 and the wife's 239 sport Houge rubber grips which improve the feel and control of the two guns.

ETA....Assuming the wife is looking to purse carry, the 938 would be my suggest proving you have a good stiff'ish holster (kydex or leather) insert or hidden compartment. My wife is looking to start carrying in her purse, (I know, not ideal but that's the only way she'll carry,) so I'm, looking to adapt a kydex shell on a velcro patch to affix her her purse.

The P239 is a large 8+1 single stack 9mm. Mine shot very well, and very much like a full size gun because it pretty much is. But, it really served no purpose for me as a limited capacity large 9mm. However, for small and very small hands it may well be THE way to go in Sig.

The 239 conceals extremely well with an IWB holster like a Crossbreed. The 239 also comes in a dehorned SAS model to prevent any hard points from snagging on clothing. I love mine for CCW.

P239 IMHO 3 fingers on the grip are better then 2 fingers on the grip

Ya LGS has a two-tone SAS Gen2... Wife has yet to go handle both, she's shot Glocks and my USP45. I'm leaning toward the 239, but ultimately it's for her...so we'll see. Will keep you guys updated.

I have a 938 rosewood .  It has been very reliable. Easy to use and follow up shots are smooth and on target. The night sights are great.
I can literally see the sights from across the room in the dark.  It fits in my pocket great and carry it in gym shorts whatever. Extra magazine fits comfortable in my check book style wallet. Only thing I do not like about it is during a combat reload the top round strips off ejected magazine.

Echoing the 239 votes, mainly due to it's simplicity.

239 mags seem to be in high demand, must be because they are a high capacity and not a standard capacity

Ba-duh-dum.

ETA: 8 rds is not high-capacity

If you live in NY it is!

Just being sarcastic though. I didn't think the run on mags would affect a 8rd blued Sig mag...never fails

I bought my wife the same exact gun. She loves it! I put the hogue grip on hers (and mine) and she likes it much better than the stock grips. Her pistol has the best factory SIG trigger that I have ever felt.

Great choice. I just traded AR mags and ammo for a P239 9mm with night sights. Had to search hard to get mags but I did find some.

Awesome, congrats. I picked up a standard 9mm w/ns this week.  With a tagua $25 Leather Iwb holster, so far it's been an easy CCW.

My complaint is the grip on this weapon is slick, needs moar checkering, grip to the stock grips. Until I decide on grips, I threw on a hogue handall jr. I had laying around, a solid 75%improvement.

Good choice, she'll love.  I had and carried a P239 in .40 for a couple years.  I say had because my wife took it when she decided she wanted her CCW.  Even if .40 she has no problems at all and is even better with the DA than I am.  I replaced it with a P938 for myself, it's an awesome gun as well.

I like this one, SIG does not make these models anymore.

Shot it yesterday, I had no problem making a 10 hole ragged from 7 yards, wife did ok she is learning quickly with it, she's fine with the DA.

They still make a P232, but not the P230... whether they make that "model" in a stainless slide and blackened frame I'm not sure...

Excellent choice! I carry mine chambered in 357 SIG. Given the choice I'll take the 200 fps increase in speed every time. I want to err on the side of too much penetration. And with a barrel swap I practice with .40 S&W. The sturdy little 239 handles those cartridges well.

If it was my full time gun I would have gone with the .40 and got a .357 conversion barrel...

Before new Houge Rubber grips

After grips

I've been looking at this same model for about 6mo to replace my Kahr CW9 and your post is making it harder to drive past the LGS.  Thanks
