I just picked up a mid 80's vintage S&W 422 in trade in near perfect condition with two mags.  I'll share pics shortly, but it is 6inch blued version with target adjustable sights and wood grips.  I traded a nice Leopold vx-1 4-12x scope and some 40 s&w ammo for it.

I have been doing a lot of reading about these and they are often described as a poor man's model 41.  Feels great in the hand and is extremely light.  I'll try to get put and shoot it this weekend and report back.  In the meantime, how did I do?  Anyone else have one of these laying around?

If you like it and don't miss the scope and ammo, then you did good!

I sold my like new FS SS Colt 1911 to my close uncle for $600. I bought a S&W M&P9C. Some will probably say I was dumb to sell off the "Holy Grail" of handguns. I say meh. My uncle was really wanting a handgun for HD and as a sidearm when hunting. I really wanted an M&P9C. I'm super happy with my new M&P, but I'm happier knowing my uncle got a badass gun at good price! I also kept it in the family. Win win!

I have two. I think they are great. Mine are suppressed with SWR Specters. Sounds great. Wish I could remember who I purchased the adapters from. Found it. Here it is.

That was actually one of the selling points for me.   A $26 adapter is not a bad deal.   Now, I just need the suppressor
I found the adapter here but have not ordered yet.

422 is the 4 inch model, 6 inch is the 622. Excellent .22's for the money. My 422 was FAR more reliable then my Ruger MK II and just as accurate. Just remember to keep a used .22 case to break it down. Far better pistol then the one that replaced it.

I could be wrong but I believe the 622 was stainless. 422 is blued.  Mine has the 6 inch barrel, target sights and is marked 422 on the side.   I agree it's pretty simple to take down once you know how.  Spent casing worked pretty well.  I won't take it down all they way though.   Not feeling that adventurous yet.

You are correct, the 6 prefix denotes stainless on all S&W's

Gonna make me goto the safe aren't you...

Yep I've got a 4" 422 that I've had for 20+ years, I rarely shoot it. I only have one mag and I prefer the Ruger Mk II.

I'll probably give the 422 to my G'daughter in a few more years.

If you're happy then ya did well.

This family of pistols are awesome.

I'm still kicking myself for passing on a beater 422 for $150.

I have a 2206 that's pretty sweet though.

(I never really liked the family of pistols that replaced these either)

**EDIT** here a bad pic of mine

There's some videos on youtube, it really easy.

They used to come with a little takedown tool, but an empty .22 case will work. (a little wood dowel would be better, because I've scratchem mine up alittle using an empty)

They are good pistols. I especially like the blue six inch "target" model that you have.  Realistically though the 422 and the 41 have little in common; .22LR chambering, use the same magazine, are both S&Ws.

I believe the same basic pistol was made in three or more barrel lengths and in alloy , steel or stainless. My mind is kind of fuzzy on this .

I just tried to check that by looking in my 33rd edition of the blue book and can not find the 422 or 622 listed under S&W semi auto rimfire

The blue book is sometimes a PITA

I think I read (it's been a while, so this might not be exactly correct) that this family of pistold lineage goes back to the escort.
