A Buddy let me shoot his 22 TCM. I was really surprised how easy it is to retract the slide, felt like my AA 1911 22LR conversion. The 22 TCM IS very LOUD and has a noticeable muzzle flash. Reloads use H-110 powder but dies are in short supply, my Buddy is on the waiting list for dies.
This is a very flat shooting cartridge and has been totally reliable in my Friend's RIA wide body 1911. I think I would prefer a single stack frame for concealment but I haven't seen that option. I saw where RIA is releasing a 41/4 " barrel version but still using the wide body frame. I like the 1911 design better than the FN 57 pistol and makes the the RIA more desirable to me.
It appears the factory TCM load uses a bonded core bullet and penetration seems adequate for defensive use. I don't know if the cartridge produces the same effect as high speed rifle rounds like 5.56 as the velocity is close to 2100 FPS IIRC. I think the factory 22 TCM is superior to the 22 WMR out of a pistol and similar in performance to the 5.7 X 28 in a pistol. In my mind the 22 TCM would have similar on target effect as a 50 grain SP bullet from a 223/5.56 at 200 to 250 yards. The 22 TCM would definitely be lethal but I don't know if it is any better than typical defensive pistol cartridges ie 9 MM, 40, 45. The only real advantage of the 22 TCM is the flat shooting cartridge maybe extending the pistol range by not having to hold over as much as typical defensive pistol cartridges.
