Just curious I have not seen much talk on the Rock Island 1911 - 22 Tcm / 9mm ?, From what I have noticed I like it better than the FN 5.7 Pistol, I wonder has anyone started reloading the 22 tcm round with a FMJ yet ?, Those of you who have played with this or shot whats your thoughts?

Also I had seen the below pics looks like someone has experimented with reloads the three in the middle appear to be 22 TCM's - 1 to left looks like the factory load by ARMSCOR have not seen the other 2 to the right avilable anywhere anyone know of this?

Yeah, I've had one for about a year.   The .22 TCM cartridge itself is fun to shoot -- big boom, no recoil -- but pretty much useless for my purposes.

Mostly I leave the 9mm barrel in it, which is really why I bought it to begin with.

I have a set of dies and components for it but haven't generated enough empty brass yet (maybe 1/2 a box) to set it up for reloading.

A Buddy let me shoot his 22 TCM.  I was really surprised how easy it is to retract the slide, felt like my AA 1911 22LR conversion.  The 22 TCM IS  very  LOUD and has a noticeable muzzle flash.  Reloads use H-110 powder but dies are in short supply, my Buddy is on the waiting list for dies.

This is a very flat shooting cartridge and has been totally reliable in my Friend's RIA  wide body 1911.  I think I would prefer a single stack frame for concealment but I haven't seen that option.  I saw where RIA is releasing a 41/4 " barrel version but still using the wide body frame.  I like the 1911 design better than the FN 57 pistol and makes the the RIA more desirable to me.

It appears the factory TCM load uses a bonded core bullet and penetration seems adequate for defensive use.  I don't know if the cartridge produces the same effect as high speed rifle rounds like 5.56 as the velocity is close to 2100 FPS IIRC.   I think the factory 22 TCM is superior to the 22 WMR  out of a pistol and similar in performance to the 5.7 X 28 in a pistol.  In my mind the 22 TCM would have similar on target effect as a 50 grain SP bullet from a 223/5.56 at  200 to 250 yards.   The 22 TCM would definitely be lethal but I don't know if it is any better than typical defensive pistol cartridges ie 9 MM, 40, 45.  The only real advantage of the 22 TCM is the flat shooting cartridge maybe extending the pistol range by not having to hold over as much as typical defensive pistol cartridges.

Glocks would not be an easy conversion.  You need a large frame (20/21 or 29/30) to fit the ammo in the magazine.  These would require a new slide with correct breach face and extractor locations.  And the you would have to modify 10mm mags to hold and feed the TCM correctly.

You'll have the same problem with any pistol with a 9mm specific magazine and mag well.  There is not enough over all length.  The 1911 based conversion works because the even in a 9mm variant of the pistol, the frames still have a .45ACP (front-to-back) length magazines.

Yeah, .22TCM ammo, as currently available from Armscor will not fit in the magazine of that gun.  Look at the ammo shown in the add.  That is a pretty expensive pistol which only works with one custom loading of an already obscure caliber.  Cool pistol within its limitations, if you know and understand that before buying it.  And that one is ugly, even for a Glock.

The text of the add reads:
We are a custom gun shop with ties to Fred Craig the Developer/Designer of the Famous TCM/Micro Mag 22 (2100FPS) and have worked with him to develop a TCM/Micro Mag conversion for the Glock 17. BE THE FIRST TO HAVE ONE. We sell this as the MM-G. All work is done in our shop, Slide lightning, barrel, springs, and guide rod. What you are bidding on is a stock Gen 4 17 with both 9mm and TCM barrels and springs all stock except slide lightning we even save the Tenifer treatment. just change the barrel, guide rod and spring to shoot Micro Mag TCM. We have developed a new bullet so the round will fit in a stock Glock mag. We sell full guns with the conversion or can build you a conversion on your Glock 17 slide. Custom polymer finishes, stippling, and trigger jobs available. Call us with any Questions at ( 775-513-3962 ) Ammo is available from us at $32.50 for a box of 50. Imagine a Glock that shoots a 40 grain hollow point at 2100 FPS with very little recoil. Postal Money Order or Certified Checks only. Shipping is $35.00 Postal.

Length wise, yes.  You will need to adjust the feed lip gap.

The G20 slide will be way too heavy.  And the .22TCM* case head is even smaller than the 9mm.  So while the 9mm case head might work with the 10mm breach face, extractor, and ejector.  The 22TCM may need specific parts made.

*The 22TCM case is based on .223 Remington cases and sares the .378" diameter rim.  The 9mm Luger has a rim diamter of .392".

I have the 22 TCM/9mm and I am reloading for it.

My impressions:

1)  Yikes!  That's loud!

2)  Huge Fireball

3) Why is everyone at the range looking at me?

4)  Damn!  This thing is fun!

You can get Hornady reloading dies and cases/bullets at Ammo Supply Warehouse.   Use H110/296 powder.

I also shoot quite a bit with the 9mm - reliable and accurate.
