Saw a youtube video of a suppressed CX4 and thought it would be a great candidate for a suppressed 9mm carbine with subsonic rounds. After searching the internet, I found some websites saying it would be legal to thread the barrel, and some people on discussion boards said it would not be legal. Can anyone shed some light on this? And is the grip on the CX4 considered a "pistol grip?"

922r is such a convoluted crock of $HIT.

It depends if beretta does anything to the rifles when they arrive.  If they are arriving with all parts made in Italy, then using the rifle in "banned" configuration would be a violation under 922r as far as I know.

As far as I know, that is still considered a pistol grip as pictured.

Think about the SAIGA shotguns.  They arrive with a straight stock, and a 5 round detach mag.  If you stick a highcap 20 round drum in the gun, its illegal under 922r untill you put the required US made parts into the gun. I think its 10 parts.  The mag is three parts if its got a body, follower and and endcap.

So yes its very possible that gun, since its a semi auto and likely takes over 10rd mags, that it would be illegal under 922r to do so.

But I don't know for sure, but from what I've read on 922r, yes it does apply since that gun is made in Italy.

I just did a SBR F1 on a CZ EVO 9mm pistol.  I had to install several US made parts to make it legal under 922r.  Lame.

That's the conclusion I came to after I did some more reading today. A threaded barrel is on the 922r list of features, so it's not legal to thread the barrel unless we play the parts game and start swapping out parts for US-made parts. It's a shame, because that rifle would be perfect to suppress.

Hmm, unless I have the barrel threaded and pin/weld a 3-lug adapter on for a 9mm suppressor. It's not a flash hider, and techincally it doesn't have a threaded barrel if the adaptor is welded over them.

Another gray area for me, what if you were to attached a compensator (non-flash hider) and weld in place?
