There seems to be some renewed interest in the COTI units lately - here's a shot from the end of the day after some deer hunting, with my buddies walking back down the trail towards our trucks.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno man, I sure enjoy it, but it’s a lot of coin. I’m sure plenty of people would say we’re all crazy for spending this kind of cash on NVGs though, so just depends on your situation. I think they’re definitely overpriced for the sensor you get in them, but no real comparable options for any cheaper out there. I very much prefer it to a separate thermal unit for most of my purposes. If you were a heavy night hunter I bet the money would be better spent on a high res unit with a big ol piece of germanium on it.

PSQ-20 You get Fusion if you want it but yet the thermal is a separate thermal channel that runs independent of the NV

Looking at some of the new pics vs the old ones Vic and me and others posted ia amazing.
The photography with some of these thermal units is amazing.

I should repost some of the old shots but just for kicks, here is my favorite PVS-14 pic.

What’s weird is the emission points we’re flying all over the place! Lol

There’s already a lot of Perseid meteors. The next few nights should be awesome.

Had a great evening with Chuck from Presscheck at the P&S Training Summit this weekend along with a decent contingent from 19th group (31s all around). Snagged a few shots through the MOD-3 w/ COTI -

91% moon, clear skies. I also noticed when looking across the field at scenes that were half reflected moonlight off of trees/half sky and stars, I got a bit of rapid dim/brightening of the tube sometimes, maybe 5-10% contrast change. Was this autogating?

Yup. All the gain knob does is set the maximum gain.

@JohnDough To clarify, I mean yup as in it's the ABC, and not autogating. Both 11769 & 10160 tubes have ABC.

Just went up to a spot overlooking downtown Pittsburgh this morning and stitched a few images together from the Accolade 2 XP50 (640px, 2.5x). Pretty awesome seeing thermal in high res when you combine shots together like this. Goes from a 0.3 megapixel image to 2.6 mp.

I never had a tube do that. My experience with ABC is it just dims the image and doesn't flicker back and forth. Doesn't mean that it won't I suppose. It's probably the ABC. Autogating will typically whine when it kicks in or at least initially when a light source triggers it and usually needs much brighter light than the onboard IR.

Holding an iPhone up to a 14 really doesn’t do the tube any justice
