I'm starting this thread because I couldn't find one dedicated to dyed Magpul furniture. I'm hoping it will fill up with lots of badass custom rifles. I'll start it off with my new toy.

I spent 4 hours yesterday first masking, then dyeing my new Magpul MOE furniture.

The base is Foliage Green, the dye is 1 teaspoon Kelly Green and 1/2 teaspoon Black Rit dye in 7 cups of near boiling water. Each part was dyed for 4 minutes.

I recommend using a hairdryer for heating up and molding your masking material ( I used 1&1/2" super 88) around and into all the nooks and crannies. Managed to get the job done with NO bleeding! I could barely believe it myself.

Very nice!  I've been thinking about trying to dye a set of Magpul FDE furniture to something like Coyote or even darker.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, a Tutorial would have been good huh? I didn't think of it at the time though. It's simple enough to do, if you know how to use electrical tape, scissors, x-acto and hot dye. Like I said in the OP, a hairdryer was invaluable. Cut the tape to shape, stick it lightly in place and then heat it with the dryer. Once it is soft you can use your fingers and a small tool ( I used a sculpting tool) to mold the tape to fit all the little contours of the plastic pieces. If you don't, the tape tends to let the water underneath through the tiniest of airspaces.

I'd like to see other's dyed magpul projects posted in here. Anyone got anything they are proud of?

Man that looks good!  You did a good job.

RECOIL magazine had a good tutorial about doing this.  Yours turned out great!

Google Rit Magpul. You'll find several dark brown sets on various forums.

I'm surprised that dyeing Magpul stuff is not more popular. I would like to see more of it.

Very nice job, looks better than my DuraCoat :-( Your line were done great and just fit in making the overall AR looks great. Have you tried Dyeing rubber?
Like the buttstock? And did you use a clear coat when done?

Thanks man. I haven't tried rubber, I don't know how well it would work, the surface needs to be porous. I didn't seal it in with anything, You don't really need to. The dye soaks into the plastic's surface and permanently anchors there in the pores. It's smooth and tough, it wont rub off and solvents/cleaners won't hurt it. I tested mine with CLP and carb cleaner. When it's done, you get the impression of the design being molded into the plastic. I have read that bleach will take most of it out, but it will leave a faint tint of the dye behind.
