I just bought a marlin 336 in 30-30. It came with a cheap Simmons 3-9 scope on it. I plan on shooting the Hornady LeverRevolution ammo. What is the best distance to zero this rifle with this ammo?

As far as I'm concerned, most rifles are zeroed in at 100Y. You should do the same.

My shooting range is 100 yards long................so that's the distance most of my rifles get zeroed in at.

When you get tired of the low dollar scope you could consider a nice Lyman peep sight.
You might be surprised at how well it works and the almost brilliant simplicity of a peep on a lever gun.

I like the 100 yd zero on a range gun but if you are hunting with it you might consider asking around and getting
a rough idea at what distances deer are taken in your area.
Here in New England that would be more like 40-70yards , so a 60 yd zero would be a good choice.

Don't quote me on the specifics here because it's been a while since I've zeroed a .30/30 with a scope. But IIRC, I zeroed it around 50-75 yards, which left it a little high at 100, back on again around 125, and a little low at 150. I was figuring that the effectiveness range of the .30/30 was about 150 yards give or take, so I was within about 2 inches of bullseye from muzzle to 150.

For levers, though, I prefer the irons. I'd like to try peeps on the 336 I just picked up last week.

Congrats on a great rifle! Post pics!

Sorry,  no deer hunting with it here in Ohio. Shotgun/Muzzleloader only. There is a chance I could go to one of our rifle friendly neighbor states.

Yeah, I keep irons on my lever guns and sight them in for 50 yards.

Ditch the scope, add a aperature, and zero at 100.

If you sight it in at 100 yards you will be -1.5 at the barrel, .28 at 50 yards, 0.0 at 100 yards, -2.75 at 150 yards and at 200 you would be -8.39 inches.  That means at 200 yards you still hold on fur or you may shoot high.  Thats with 170 gr bullets.

And yes, 100 yards with a peep sight is a great way to go.

If you may be taking fancy shots at close range, practice at close range, but be sighted in for the 100 yard shots.
