Greetings all--

Expecting to get my transfer approval on my .45 Osprey Suppressor in likely the
next six weeks.  Need advice on a good "host gun".

I've looked around a bit, and see these as contenders:

HK 45CT:  http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/hk45ct_general.asp

vs.

full-size HK 45T:  http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/hk45t_general.asp

vs.

FNX-45 tactical:  http://www.fnhusa.com/l/products/handguns/fnx-series/fnx-45-tactical/

...and a few others (e.g., threaded barrel for my Colt 1911).

Would like to hear from those with experience with the platforms-- what are the advantages/disadvantages?

Thanks!

SD

FNX-45 Tactical is the best host, goes perfect with the Osprey suppressor

Take your pick.......I said screw it, and got all three.

The HK45 Tactical and the USP 45 Tactical are the quietest hosts......however, I like my FNX-45 the best tho.

HK45 Tactical - mags are fooking expensive! $70 each expensive. Comes with Meprolight night sights, but they can't see over the Osprey. Comes in 4 different colors. I got OD Green because I was tired of FDE. Doesn't come with thread protector.

USP 45 Tactical - best trigger of the three....9 pound DA pull, 3 pound SA pull. Buttery smooth. Sights see over the suppressor, but they're solid black. Would've been nice if they were 3-dot, but overall, the sights aren't that bad. Also doesn't come with thread protector.

FNX-45 Tactical - best value of all of these. Comes with three 15-round mags, soft case, suppressor height Trijicon night sights, and can mount a Trijicon RMR......basically, it's the ultimate tacticool gun, and makes Fudds scrunch their ugly little faces in disgust. Also makes anti-gunners cry.

Just my .02 cents of all of them.

FYI - try a 1911 suppressed  before you drop money buying and fitting a threaded barrel......1911s usually make less than stellar hosts, compared to the polymer wonder pistols.....if you want a metal single stack .45 that suppresses really well, check out the SIG P220 Combat....also check out the new P227 Tactical.....has suppressor night sights.

P220

Currently deciding if a HK45 or USP Tactical will be my next host.

I run a G21 with a Jarvis barrel....regular night sights... YHM 45 can.

Cheap gun, cheap accessories, and sounds great.

If you want HK, FN, and Sig, go ahead...but none of them run/sound any better than any of the others IMHO.

Once you have a host, subsequent purchases will be because you are "collecting"... And there's nothing wrong with that

I got a chance to take my 227 out and visit my Osprey a few weeks back. It was a great host! Ive shot a G21 and HK (neither mine) supressed and they were also good. However, the 227 just seemed right.

Agreed 100%.

My USP tactical in 45 is by far my sweetest shooting Handgun and a great host.

Like others have said, USP Tactical. I've really enjoyed mine with my Ti-Rant.

Love my FNP 45 Tactical. Works great with my Octane 45.

+1 on a Sig P220 or P227.

I have a P227, just waiting for my TiRants to get out of jail...

I shot a 227 for the first time last weekend and while it was nice (17# hammer spring, E2 grips, SRT, Sig nite sights) I'm not sure it was $300 better than the G21 I was also shooting.

Different strokes I guess

How about something different (in addition, of course ) like a Kahr CT45?

P227 Tactical.  Has high sites.  SRT....some of them have 14 round magazines and sig sauer is doing a promo right now for two extra magazines for free.  It comes with two, so that's 4 all together.

Love the FNP45 or FNX45 Tactical.

Another value over buying a Tactical would be to buy a used FNP45 and pick up a factory threaded barrel.... which isn't available with the FNX45.

You'd lose the red dot slot on the slide and tall suppressor night sights, but if you're not planning on adding a red dot it doesn't matter much....and you'll save hundreds of dollars.

Still waiting for the can. Debating to go with the SilencerCo Octane 45 since I can switch it between my HK45-T, USP45 (once I get the threaded barrel), USP9 (once I get the threaded barrel) and my MP5 pistol.

I've done that as well. I've got the FNP USG as well as the FNP Tactical. Buying another threaded barrel was a no brainer.

I've got a glock 41 I'm waiting for more threaded barrel options hit the market and I picked up an ATI 1911. Commander with a rail and threaded barrel. Should be fun host.

Thanks for everyone's input.  After reading through some more
forums & info, I'm leaning towards the HK-45 Tactical:

After thinking about things a bit, I've realized that any sort of 'concealability' in this
platform for my personal use (range toy, suppressor host) just isn't that important.  And,
I like the improved ergonomics of the HK-45 over the USP-45.

I will say that the FNX-45T is a close second; the larger mags and ready
ability to install a red dot sight being an advantage:

I've been thinking that the HK45 T will be my next handgun.  I already have the USP, but I do like that HK45.

Get the H&K the grip is extremely comfortable.
I really like the FNX T but the edge goes to the H&K.
