You are correct; that's a Bushmaster Arm Pistol from the 70s.

I have seen that before. Didn't they even have the ARM mixed with the snake on their lowers until a few years ago?

Bushmaster Armpistol

Most of them had safeties near the trigger.
Support hand in on the pistol grip, like any other pistol.
Sights are on top and pivot, depending if you have it set up for left or right hand shooting.
Although it shoulders well, it will eject a shell straight up you nose if you have your face anywhere near the ejection port.

But for the life of me I can't remember where and when!

I'm trying to figure out why you'd think, with all the bullpup enthusiasm on this forum, that we had never seen one.

You should try hefting an M82A2 sometime.

i have seen one of these before.  also doesn't the pistol grip swivel to the side or is that a different model?

––  could a semi version of this be made as a pistol??

Yes....and it was. That's why it was called the Bushmaster Arm Pistol.

I've seen some at gun shows. They usually go in the $1,000+ range. Interesting gun, for sure.

Eta: here's one on Gunbroker, but they sure want a lot for it. But it is unfired:
