Just got done with this prototype yesterday, I thought I share it with you folks.  No, I don't own an AUG... but I can dream.

Roger, That is SEXY as hell!

I too don't have a real AUG but I really like that!

Nice job

I don't have an AUG, but might be getting one this time around.  If I do, that will be the first thing I buy for it.  Phenomenal!

Any chance of something like that coming out for the MSAR?

It is good to see new products for the AUG.
I prefer a shorter rail, but this will give more options for others.

Looks about the same length to me.

I always wondered why the original AUG rail didn't have any cuts to make it lighter. Is this the same height as original? Paint me interested for future developments.

Greg3 & kfeltenberger:  Thank you gentlemen for your generous comments.

GregCandR:  The height and weight are relatively unchanged.  At 16" OAL, this rail finishes at about 8oz.  All you gain is an extra 10 slots that equates to increased sight radius.  Thank you for your interest.

Damn, apparently we have been working concurrently on the exact same concept for a top rail!

Looks good roger!

Thank you, Sven!

I guess we have very similar taste in these things.

Glad to see accessory manufacturers tinkering with the AUG. This rail is not really my cup of tea, but nonetheless I applaud you (both) for designing new accessories for the AUG....keep up the good work!

I would buy one if you can skeletonized it most/ if not all the way to the rear, for weight saving - love the looks!

I already commented at usaaug, but will again say that I think it is too long. I see no appeal to using it on an A3.

+1

The factory rail is plenty long and I don't need back up irons on everything.

Looks really nice! I like how it matches up with the TR-1A.

Any chance you'll be making a similar design for the STG-E4?

Taking our existing TR-35 rail, we went with a different approach on the MSAR.  We were looking to make something free floated to the barrel.  Here's one of the rough prototypes we did... I think Dave has seen this particular one.

How many slots on the new long top rail?  I think the existing AUG A3 top rail is 25 slots, correct?

Like our TR-35, it also has 35 slots.

2020 - Very interesting design.  In my observation, the stock A3 rail is not fully weight optimized.  Do you see any additional reduction possible in yours?

Perhaps you've already observed this.  Anyhow if you compare it to the original, you'll notice that we did some weight reduction in the mid section.  This was done in order to closely match the weight and balance of the original.  I suppose we could do the same to the rear.  However, it would shift the weight back towards the front.  Thank you for your interest!

2020, love that prototype free float front rail system you have on the MSAR. When is it out and how much?? Btw, thanks for selling me your spare E4 top rail, it looked practically new!!!

Roger.
glad to see great innovation continuing from you!  I like what I see, and can only dream of getting an Aug at this time.  So I am anxiously awaiting availability for the MSAR...

Looks nice and thin. What's the diameter on that MSAR rail setup?

How about heat transfer to the rail?

What's the total weight addition as shown on the MSAR minus the vfg?

6065?

If I want to quick change my barrel how easy is it to get the rail off?

Thank you all again for your earlier comments and questions.

Silent,
This particular forend has evolved in some degree since the picture was taken.  I can't remember how much it used to weigh, but now about a third of its material has been removed for weight saving and heat reduction.  The overall width is still roughly 2.2 inches.  Two screws are needed to secure this forend to the optic rail... I am sure there're better ways.  Once I have completed the A3 rail project at hand, I will resume the work on this.

Maybe some kind of cam lever set up instead of screws? Tool-less disassembly is a big plus!

20/20,

What about a rail where at the end toward the very back it had the ability to take flank rail attachments (along the same line as the MSAR with its rear flank rail on the stock) so that we'd have a mounting point for a rear sling attachment without having to use up the rear top of the rail?

Sure, I will see what we can do.  Thank you for your input.

Correct.  Pete's rail is longer than the original.  I am interested in one that is the same length as the original A2 rail.

Any chance this rail will be offered for the MSAR STG556?
