Looking at getting an optic for my Tavor.  Have used a micro dot before, and liked it, but want to consider other options.

What are you guys using? Any pics?

Thanks

I've went from Aimpoint T1 Micro to ACOG, to this -

I wanted magnification on the Tavor, but the Aimpoint T1's dot turns into a slash when its viewed thru a magnifier (No - its not a vision issue).........the ACOG sat too low........

Keep in mind- the Tavor's rail is on the same level as your cheek, so optics that would co-witness 1/3rd on an AR, are actually going to co-witness absolute on a Tavor.........AR optics that co-witness absolute, are going to sit too low on a Tavor.

Thus far, I've been extremely happy with this setup. Unlike a 1-4x scope, I can take the magnifier off via the QD mount, and just run the EOTech, if I know I don't want/need magnification.

Tried an ACOG with RMR, and the ACOG sat too low, and the RMR sat too high to use.

Also - the BUIS also cowitness perfectly with this setup, and flip up with no issues.

From what I can tell, the "absolute co-witness height" for the Tavor is about the same as "lower 1/3 co-witness height" for an AR.

I say this because I made the mistake of using AR-absolute-cowitness-height optics and found them just a bit uncomfortable to use... and then when I mounted up my Eotech 553, it felt like it was just _made_ for the rifle.

Speaking of which, I'm running the 553 for now, but will probably shift over to a Mepro optic later on.

Eotech...mainly because I like them but i have been happy with how mine has performed and works with the rifle:

I put one of the special "Brownells" edition Eotech EXPS2s on my Tavor in the gun store parking lot.

EoTech...516 on mine

(I prefer the EoTech models with the taller sight bases.)

I've switched from an Aimpoint micro ( discontinued R1) in a GG&G to a Trijicon SRS for general arsing about.
I find dot acquisition with the SRS much quicker than the Micro, but the SRS is a chunky little fucker....That said it feels pretty indestructible.
If I'm at the range doing groups I'll switch out to a TA33 Acog or 1-4 GSCR scope.

Otherwise one of the EXP eotechs looks like a good choice.

I'd like to try one of those Meprolight MOR. I just got a EoTech EXPS3-2 yesterday to replace a Bushnell 1-4 AR223 scope temporarily on it. Took awhile to decide on that route. I'll try and get a pic up.

I tried an Aimpoint T1 Micro on mine and didn't like it.  It gave a weird glare that I didn't have using it on other rifles.  I switched to an Eotech and it worked fine, but neded some magnification.  I ended up putting an old Leupold CQT on it and really like the setup.  You lose cowitness to the iron sights, but with the rugged construction I likely won't need them.

I wish I could justify shelling out the $900-$1000 for a MOR... it would definitely be my first choice.

I have a Trijicon Tripower using an American Defense extra high QD mount.  I tried the regular AR height base (high) but it required me to squish my cheek into the stock to use

Has no one tried anything like a trijicon accu point 1-4 or a vortex viper pst 1-4 or a leather wood cmr 1-4 or a Burris MTAC ?

If you are not afraid of adding a couple lbs to the Tavor the Elcan Specter Dr is a damn good optic. It's heavy weight & cost wise.

Tried a 1-4 throw lever Bushnell AR .223 scope first (which I love on an AR) and it made it too top heavy. I like the EoTech on there. Nice rifles everyone.

I've tried a bunch of sights on mine. Right now I'm using a Mepro 21 and like it a lot. It looks funky with a 3x magnifier. I also liked it with an Eotech, I had the 512 on it. I may put a 556 (I think that's the one) on it later when I own one I wish they had a MOR with a class 1 IR, I'd be all over that!

I originally had the Mepro on it but went to an indoor range and did not like the sights one bit... Because how much darker inside the range was. I gave up on it. But tried the sight later outside and it was a huge difference. Just be aware of that if you choose a M21. I would add that accessory that amplifies the M21 indoors... Can't remember what it's called(dang TBI).

Right now the only optic I've tried on mine is an Eotech EXPS2-2. I like it, but I'm still gonna try a few others to see if there is some thing I like better.

WOR (Wash Out Remover)

The WOR is very interesting. How well does it to work? I had a M21 on my first Tavor, sold it due to too much washout and now both are wearing T1 micros and haven't looked back. I also have a TA31 ACOG but to be honest, I haven't tried it on the Tavor as in my experience its first and foremost a CQB rifle and I can get hits at 300m with a RD.....so why bother with magnification IMHO.

Anyone have pictures of variable power optics (1-4 or 1-6 even) and mounts on the Tavor? How do you like it?

All the info on this here, Israel made so it seems appropriate. I obviously have not used one since they are coming on a few weeks but early testers say they are good.

I have tried a bunch of different sights from a simple mini red dot to an SRS. I really want a Elcan DR but I'll have to sell a guitar or two and another amp to pay for it.

I had an Eotech XPS 2-0 but felt that it was a tad too heavy and threw off the balance of the rifle.  I would go with something light like a micro red dot with a high mount.

Tried a Micro, M3 an older TR21 and a TA33.

ended up using either the SRS02 or the GCRS 1-6 for a variable. Both are in Bobros so once zeroed, going back and forth is quick and dependable.

contenders:

I went with an EOTech EXPS 3-0. Works great and uses the same batteries as my Surefire Mini Scout.
