So anyone take a rattle can of spray paint to their AUG?

Was pretty much a unwritten SOP, to do so with our M-4s, and M-249s when was in Iraq/Afghan.  Use to paint them tan color.  Not so much to "blend in", but to keep them from getting so hot, and plus looks cool  ; )   (remember the first three rules for a Ranger: 1. Always look cool 2. Never get lost 3. If you do get lost, as least try to look cool)

We just use to spray them, and let them dry and use.  Tape on the optics or other micro parts and just spray the whole firearm.   Would wear off in spots that were held, used, and then give it a black/tan cammo type look.  Of course could just touch them up.

Now with an AUG, might try to be a little more precise.   Prep the gun a little better, with degreaser or alcohol pads?  Spray and then also give a coat of clear coat over that? I have also heard after spray on and drying a bit, to but the stock , and even the metal parts in a home oven at 200 degrees for an hour, to bake on? Question on that one.

I hung mine from a coat hanger in the garage and let it rip.

I can post pic tomorrow when I get home.

No regrets.

The main thing holding me back is I hate the feel of painted surfaces.  Kinda slick, kinda sticky, kinda icky.

Hell Ya! spray painted all the Augs, Tavors, Scar H, aks, Suburbans, and dune buggy. Paint it.....you will never look back... I was thinking about a nice desert camo job on the house but I guess the town has ordnances on that. Plus my wife shut me down. .

A pic of my standard and NATO... I want to add a m1 with the 3x so bad

You sir are quite the artist. Especially with the bottom gun.

I've rattle canned a few guns. But I haven't done it to my AUG.

Thanks Sparks for the photo.  Looks good, and different.   What type of paint did you use? Any clear coating?  How long has it worn for you?

Here is a photo of my Aug A3 and a SpikesAr in a slidefire stock. They are both painted in cerakote c air dry. This is the heat resistant product.
That is good as both the Aug in slow fire and the slidefire in 3 round bursts both get super hot very fast.
Cerakote is however permanent. It is very easy to use. I just degrease according to their instructions an spray with a cheap air brush.

The standard aug I have had for 3 years and the paint has been threw everything. Rock climbing to deep mountain backpacking to skidding down a slop on my aug like a sled for about 200 yards when my pack pulled me over on ice due to a Labrador collision haha the paint has held up amazing its dura coat. I use to dura coat everything but this last year I just cheap rattle can them it's fast and easy.. I can add a touch of white in the winter or touch up any scratches easy, and I can do my Wolverines Art work on them.. It's really amazing how bad a black rifle stands out in the hills.. My Brother In law was across a ravine from me about 300 yards away in pretty thick trees and I couldn't see him or his pack due to his multi cam but man I could track his black mk12 like it was a beacon.. Ever since that I camo everything.. And for sure Dura coat is easy and works great but cheap krylon is cheaper and works just as good.. Just my $0.02

Nice jobs! I don't have the balls to do that to my AUG yet. I'm afraid I'll look back and regret it.

Rattle can spray paint or better yet, duracoat mission specific removable spray paint is easily removed by wiping with acetone
I have done it myself and this will not hurt the finish on your rifle.
If your  finish is in good condition, just degrease (break cleaner, acetone, or Duracoat tru-strip) and spray
The most effective and easiest camo pattern is irregular tiger stripes. Varying the colors can produce either a desert or jungle pattern.
Here is a pair of Glocks in jungle and desert tigerstripe. Just rip painters blue tape to make the stencils. Make it irregular or it looks like a candy cane

That Swedish splinter camo is incredible!
You now only have to paint the scope and barrel
