I've been shooting the little 9mm variants of these "Swiss designed, Chilean made" guns for a while.

But it looks like we'll be getting the big .308s into Canada this year.

These are a great alternative to the G3 or FALs which are now prohibited in Canada.

Does anyone stateside have experience with FAMAE guns or the Sig 540 platform as a whole? There's lots of interest here on how they will compare to the Sig550s.

I got a few hours hands on time with them, and am trying to decide whether I want to stick with .223 I shoot regularly or jump up to the .308

And some pretty pictures:

You can actually buy an "MP5K style rear plate" for these thats only a sling plate.

So definitely pistol-capable!

But I doubt they'd pass 9.22 compliance or whatever your funny US laws are :P

Pistols are not covered by 922(r). Totally importable sans vertical pistol grip.

Yah, but it would be so VERY hard to NOT convert it to an SBR!

Agreed! I would buy one solely for the purpose of making an sbr. I'm sure someone would come up with appropriate parts for 922(r) compliance.

Pistols aren't covered by that?

Gun laws. Crazy as ever.

In that case you guys should try importing one with the plate installed! They're a ton of fun:

So who is going to get on that?

What all is involved?  I'd be all over one of them.

And hell, import one of those 308s too, sans stock.    I [i]LOVE[/] the combination of Swiss and HK styling on it.

Those would be awesome if we could get the 540 in and have some US made parts to make them compliant!

Those are pretty cool, but with SIG USA's emphasis on the MPX I don't see it coming stateside at any point.

Since M+M and Armati are the ones importing the 553, I guess it would be possible to not have to rely on SIG.
