For all of you guys asking about slings and mag pouches for AK setups, here is what I am currently running (see below):

The sling is just an inexpensive single point universal from Botach.  It works very well for me on my AK-105 setup:

For open top mag pouches, the choices are pretty slim.  I had to order these from a place in the U.K. (  http://www.flecktarn.co.uk  )

They will hold four (4) AK-74 mags and have a center divider but not individual ones.  The rear has MOLLE straps for attachment to anything that will support them.

Bump! Anyone else have a setup they'll post? I need to pick up a sling asap!

Check out the AK course thread. Hippiekcker has posted what he runs there (vcas sling).

VCAS is what he recommended and I plan on using one too.  In fact, if the one that likes to kick me is watching, do you guys have these in stock?  Given that I know absolutely zero about slings (city kid here) I would love a little help figuring out how to simply have it on the rifle and on me to alleviate at least a little goofiness with it.  I think I handle the thing fine with no sling but it HAS to make it easier.I will probably need to make the trip for something else pretty soon anyway.  Well, that and I never get out of there without coming home with random stuff that I didn't know I wanted/needed.  Like carbine handguards for a rifle I don't even have an upper for yet

ETA:  ZERO.  Damnit.  Need to zero.

ETAA: DAMNIT... need a sight tool.  Yargh.

I'll post some pics tomorrow. If anyone needs help putting on slings /etc. swing by before the class and we'll rig something up.

If time permits I'll post some pics tomorrow of my setup. It's not a be-all end all but for a low profile AK setup it works for me. Run what works for you. I urge anyone taking the class to PUT YOUR SHIT ON. If you don't have time to actually get out and shoot it then at least sac up and wear the shit around the house scaring the kids and wife units with your ninja like skills working your mag changing magic.

I picked up a Russian two-point there for my AK a month ago that works great. Like $10 or something.

I plan on using the standard gun belt I bought a decade ago after a rather unfortunate incident in a retail establishment.  It is whatever the max width of Levi 505s belt loops are.  I plan on just looping the molle straps over it.  I will have to get my hands on a dump pouch.  I'll try it out before I drive up there.

Oh, the kid will just think I'm funny, the wife will roll her eyes (again), but the REAL treat will be watching my (actual) hippie neighbors!

hippies with guns...
run hippies run...

Side note... For those who wonder where I thought of my nick... I was giving my wife crap (another actual hippie) and was singing "hippies with guns" as a spoof on this spoof:

Is that little divot on the hand guard for a tape switch or something? Or is it just a ergo thing?

Although I do have to warn you, Ive tried to zero my 2 primary aks about 6 different occasions, last time being at the arfcom shoot, and for the love of me can not move that front sight windage.... still shoots 1" left at 50yds, both of them too!!!!

A little. But it holds the piston. It doesn't get hot enough to cook the micro if thats what you're getting at.
