Anybody into the classics?

Im finding i spend more and more time on RBR, the EE and gunbroker, looking for good deals on retro parts..I think i have a problem.

I just started a "retro-ish" 607 build w a faux fixed 607 stock..
So far i have a set of 607 handguards, and FSB.. Just picked up a 603 upper, flat ring, and D stock on the EE, waiting for those to come in. NDS partial fence,LW 11.5 barrel and 4.5 moderator are next!

Lets see your retro builds!

Got my A1 upper and flat slip ring today! Put it on my spikes lower to see how it looked..Im quite pleased, really digging the old school grey. Gonna order my 11.5 barrel today or tomorrow.

I do plan to swap the NDS upper, and use this upper and the Brick xm moderator for the next project, the xm177.

Got my barrel, gas tube, CH and some mottled d stocks, 602 grips, and handguards for chopping today! Score!

Yeah i know the barrel isn't a pencil, but i like this look better. It is contoured and lighter under the hg. Nice and light.

I'd like to have an old school pencil barrel for an exclusive use 22LR upper. Other than that, my interest is only in serviceable parts to build functional rifles. Although, I have been VERY tempted to get one of the COLT M16A1 kits that are currently being offered.

I prefer the A1 upper simply because I shoot short range with ARs (300m or less) so having an A2 sight set up is overkill.

b_rogers: That is a very cool upper. Those shorty triangle HGs are awesome.

Thank you HBR..I cant find my A2 vice block or I would have snuck off and broke her in today, pistol style.

For a cheapie pencil in 16 or 20 try DEZ. A relative of mine bought two of the 16" pencils and says they are very accurate, so i grabbed the 12.75. Mine had a slight burr where the gas port was enlarged (exterior) and the rifling isn't as impressive as my BCM but overall it seems nice. I wonder what the optimum diameter gas port is for a 12.5? I need to check that i suppose.

CHEAP 20 1 in 7 twist pencil A1

Check out the mottling..chop chop!

Im thinking i may need an intervention..

NDS 604 used upper. I thought my other upper was grey, but this one is way lighter. Yes i know the dust cover rod is backwards, came to me that way and i just don't feel like losing the little clip right now..Ill probably use this one for the 607 and go a little more correct barrel wise.

Thanks for the link. My desire for an "old school" pencil barrel is for the 1:12 twist rate that the original M16 had. Since I want it as a dedicated 22LR upper, I need the slower twist rate for the 36 and 40 gr bullets.

Gotcha on the twist..

Odd reflection, hole is all good. My only worry is the barrel threads seem a little undersize and i get a bit of wiggle when i thread on a nut..Im gonna send this one to NDS to fit/finish match to a partial fence so ill let them be the judge.
