If we can sleep, we will be okay. When Kitties doesn't sleep, about two days in, she turns into a total bitch. Uxb used to stay up all night just so he would be meaner to his "students" as a drill instructor. So yeah. Our cats might like heat, but they don't like the bitch and the DI when neither sleeps.

I'm not sure if some have less water output by design (more evaporating and discharging through the window vent) or if the ones with higher output are better dehumidifiers. The one we have now puts out a surprising amount of water. All this said, if it's a temp solution that won't stay in place when your central air is fixed, I'd get a portable so you can put in a closet or shed when not in use. Mine comes out around once a year on average, but it's worth its weight in gold when we need it. We've bought the cheapest high but units we could find at Sam's or Amazon warehouse. If you get a chance, can you share what units you have? Which you like better, and why? I understand if you don't have time. Time is an issue for me right now too.

Used a haier 8k window unit. Bought 2 from Home Depot years ago. The one we set up was for the master bedroom that was about 15 x 20 worked well. Being in Las Vegas we didn’t have much humidity and the unit kept the room at about 80 in the summer. Also I think we paid 400 bucks for each one

Fortunately it's been somewhat of a cool spring here, so we are not hurting but I will soon have to get back to this and figure out something. |

I got this one, my room when I was a single guy with roommates was above the garage. Facing West. In Las Vegas. Thankfully my room had the attic access so I made a foam cutout so I could vent the hot air up there. It was a life saver. Considered selling/tossing when we moved. Glad I didn't as the a/c went out for a few days and this worked wonders. Kept the room at a comfy 67deg all night.

UPDATE:
Life has done what it always does at the Kitties/uxb homestead. I'm behind and it's freaking HOT here. Almost 100, with high humidity. Even the cats are sprawling out on the kitchen counters (gross but I can't blame them) on the cooler tile, as close to the fan flow as possible. Posting the ones I've looked at for apples-apples/oranges comparison is just not gonna happen I'm afraid.  I committed to do this, but I won't. I would still love the education, but don't know when I will make that happen. A friend offered us the use of a window unit, and we have ONE window that I'm willing to try that, in the bedroom. In the kitchen/dining room area where there are no viable windows for a window unit, I ordered a portable from SAM's last night because I'm sitting around in front of the fan doing nothing cuz I'm so hot. I will pay out the nose for electricity I am finding out, but I will pay it for the productivity I get from being even a little bit cooler. NOTE: I did finally find some articles that basically explained why window units are better than the rolling units. One was Consumer Reports, which I do not trust. One was Popular Mechanics, which I trust only slightly more cuz I know the reviews are bought in both of them. However the explanations of why the window units are better was a good one. I have nothing for our small, very hot bathroom. (Laundry closet is in there) Dunno what I will figure out for that while we are in process of working on the setup for the new whole-house system. Looking at those tiny swamp coolers. Not sure, with the humidity here, it will actually do much. Here is the unit I ordered from Sam's  |
