I am looking for another .308 rifle to add to the collection. I want the rifle to be somewhat lightweight as I intend to shoot offhand with it, for example, the Sig 716 is too heavy for this requirement. In addition, a 1:12 or 1:11 twist would be preferred as I plan to only shoot 149 grain bullets out of the gun. My current budget is $2100
.308 Rifles I currently own: 1.Scar 17s 2.M1A scout 3.Sig 716 4.Remington 700 AAC-SD . 308 rifles to ugly to own: 1. FN FAL 2. VEPR .308 Should I just continue saving and buy another SCAR 17s? Should I get an M1A socom? Arfcom, help me want a gun I don’t yet know exists. |

Hell, you already have everything I would recommend!
If you want to try for truly lightweight, shop around for a 308 AR w either carbon furniture or MOE. You could easily do it for under 2100 w a DPMS 308 |

I can't recommend a SOCOM since you already have the scout, but I do like my SOCOM II in the Sage EBR stock... mmmmm

This sounds interesting as I had never considered DPMS. How is their quality these days?

That pic is angling the ugly parts away. I just really don't like the way the receiver, pistol grip, and most of all trigger guard look on a FAL.
The SCAR is so amazing in every other way that its humble appearance can be overlooked and even starts to grow on you. So far doing my own build appears to be the best option. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

The FAL is ugly?
No. Not even on a bad hair day. That weapon is pretty well designed and darn functional. I don't like the operator controls for the magazine and bolt releases being too small to be smashed/poked like the AR pattern. That said it would be one of the last rifles I would sell in hard times. |

Sell the Sig, spend the money from the Sig and the $2100 and get a KAC SR25 ECC or the new SR25E2-APC

Polytech M14 clone....I just snagged one locally for $500. So cheap don't have to worry about dinging it up. Seems to shoot as good as my m1a?

When I lived in West Germany I called HK and asked If I could buy a G3. Really.
|
|
Since you don't like the FAL, I say M1A National Match or HK91.
|
|
SR-25 or MM21K
ETA: Missed the lightweight part. S&W M&P10 but you already have the lightest and finest battle rifle out currently…SCAR 17. So you really should go with a heavy hitter option like the MM21K
