He was on Stern today and when asked what he had setup for HD he said
"It's like a bounding movement towards the door where the shotgun is by the bed, the pistol is here then above the washer" Stern interrupts asking what kind of Shotgun a Benelli? O'Neill: I have a mossberg pump, I like Benelli I may have to get one. Stern asks if he's worried about over penetration with a 12Ga? O'Neill laughing: No, I'm real good about muzzle discipline. O'Neill has a legitimate reason to believe his life is in danger from a whole fucking religion and he chooses a shotgun first but hey you #nevershotgunners keep ranting. |

This thread won't take a turn for the autistic at all. Guaranteed.

What does he know? Amateur...
Now if he said a .22 with silencer or a Walter PPK in .32, then I would take notice. |

Shotguns are fine, if you have a very good setup
Ie a long hallway with a lot of advanced notice. Shotguns are also less-loud than a 5.56 indoors Still a carbine is more versitile and easier to use. |

He's a SEAL. 1. He's driven to stack the odds against himself purely for the challenge. 2. He knows it'll make a better story if five guys with AKs show up and he can coolly state he killed them all with a pump shotgun before offering the cops freshly brewed coffee. He probably considered a side by side but his better judgement won out.

I wonder why the SEALS sent him in to do the job with such an inferior weapon. Maybe they hated him...if they valued him they would have given him a shotgun for that detail. View Quote |

I'm an AR guy for HD. But I still have a "fighting shotgun" ready as a backup. Yet I have a buddy who has citations for killing a number of haj with his M4 and now as a civilian he won't own a AR. He has a bunch of shotguns that he keeps ready. And the shotgun is one of the few weapons he never used to kill the enemy. Blows my mind.
He smoked a dude at 10ft with his M4 on a skt, but still is all about the shotgun. |

How does that settle anything?
Use what you are most comfortable with to defend your house, while keeping in mind things such as penetration, capacity, etc. Fuck Shotguns(IMO), I'll stick with a Suppressed 11.5" with Surefire Mini Scout and a red dot. |

Anybody saying that a shotgun is inadequate for HD is a fool.

While I agree with him, what does muzzle discipline have to do with over penetration?

Let's see:
Ridiculously low capacity Insanely slow one round at a time reloads (in tube guns). Heavy Excessive recoil Low rate of fire (pump guns) Unwieldy Can be easily short stoked under pressure (pump guns) Requires both hands to cycle the action reliably (pump guns) Inaccurate and very short ranged Spread may send pellets were you don't want them Just as much over penetration as a pistol or a rifle if using any rounds suitable for home defense. Shotguns would have been fantastic for home defense 100 years ago, but better technology is available today. |

Stern as in...
...Howard? I had no idea he talked about stuff like that on his show. |
|
so he chooses a shotgun for HD, but yet when he was going to face people that were armed, defending their home, he chose what?
just seeing a slight disconnect... not arguing the merits of either, though I am in the AR camp. |

Lol, never hated the Mini too much(the Socom variant was an improvement over the legacy), but the Mini4 was always better sounding. KAC CQB can is hands down the best short can I've ever played with. https://www.silencershop.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/thumbnail/960x/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/k/a/kac_qdc_combo_blk_1200x800_1_1.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Ah, my bad, reading failure on my part. Anyhow, if you could somehow attach that empty flashlight tube to the end of your muzzle, it would still be quieter than a surefire mini can. There's a difference between a former Navy Seal with a shotgun and an average Joe with no training with a shotgun for home defense, just saying.
