On Thursday he made an observation that was very interesting. I could not find the transcript. But he basically said that before the 1940's The average grade education for men in the U.S. was the 8th grade. Men with 8th grade educations won the World Wars and built the Greatest nation to ever exist. Since then Education levels have rose and the Country is being destroyed from within.
Thoughts? opinions? anyway to find the transcript? |

I love Steyn. His observations about TSA screening were excellent.

I think "education" used to be a life pursuit now it is a piece piece of paper liberals give you after they take your money and in return give you a bachelors in women's studies.
BTW- I have a Bachelors, so its not like I am anti education, i just resent the idea that schools are the only place it can be acquired. I live to learn, but I don't need a professor for it. why else would i come to GD?

Quoted: I love Steyn. His observations about TSA screening were excellent. A 1930s 8th grade education would be equivalent to a BA or BS today, if colleges actually taught anything except liberal socialist indoctrination. |

Thats interesting.I do know that my son who is in the 8th grade is already doing math at a higher level than i had at HS graduation. |

As a Brit, Mark is very proud and loyal to his adopted country. His commentary is always sensible and conservative, and he hates it that Obama is leading America down a path to Euro-Socialism.
I always enjoy listening to him. |

Probably true but how many of his peers can find Europe on a map or know the slightest thing about the Constitution and Founding Fathers. |

Quoted: I love Steyn. His observations about TSA screening were excellent. He completely destroyed the TSA. Repeatedly. |

As someone said a few weeks ago: in the '60s the right went for the White House and the left went for the English dept. Their tactic was better than ours. Our biggest enemy now other than the media is Big Education.

This is because he watched his nation fall to pieces and sees the same happening to us. He commonly makes reference to how we are flirting with european socialism.

I find it very interesting that with all the attention on education these days that we are sucking so badly at it compared to other countries. In high school back in '98 or so we had this girl that was an exchange student from Germany. She breezed through school the whole time she was here because we are so far behind. We were doing algebra and she had been in calculus II at her school outside Berlin.
I find it very very sad that after 12 years of school you have people that can barely read, have no problem solving skills, no grasp of U.S. and world history and geography, no discipline, no technical skills, no work ethic, and generally not much of anything that's useful. We spend all this money on education and end up with a dumbass holding a diploma that isn't worth the paper it's written on. I dropped out in 10th grade and the really sad part is that I know more about computers, history, geography, the sciences, and math than most of the H.S. graduates of my same age group. They refuse to believe that I have a G.E.D. The truth is I was so bored in school I couldn't stand it; so I dropped out. I got my G.E.D. as soon as they would let me take the test then I enrolled in classes at the local community college. |

Heard that... what I've never heard of before is "face peels" as a fucking job perk Especially when it's the taxpayer who is footing the bill. Nine Million Dollars... for just Buffalo alone. If Bill Gates wants to send everyone out for free sushi and massage, I don't give a damn! |

intelligence and education are 2 different things.my grandaddy had 6th grade education.i wish i was half the man he was

Quoted: Marc Steyn is my favorite sub for Rush. Mine too. I liked when he started talking about Thomas Friedman and his totalitarianism fetish. "Where are the NY Times editors when Friedman starts complaining about democracy and pining for communist tyranny? Why aren't they saying 'Whoa, whoa, there Thomas. Are you sure you really want to go on record saying this stuff?'" |
|
I like when he said that he could go down to Time Square and get a better pat down for $40.
|
|
His message is generally OK, but the delivery is terrible. Obama off teleprompter sounds more polished
Walter Williams should be the fill-in more often, or that guy from DFW. |
|
I really like his logic and his stance on most subjects, but I can't stand to listen to him speak. He can't get a sentence out without starting it over two or more times. It's absolutely maddening.

The country was basically 80-90% agrarian. Farming, back then, was mostly labor intensive. No need for higher learning.

Now that the nuthuggin is done, let me say
Thursdays show he went so far overboard it was ridiculous he just droned on and on and on about the TSA. Normally I like him but have clue when enough is enough and today wasn't much better either. It's funny that you guys liked that, I was thinking I bet Rush doesn't have him back after this. |

when the time comes (hopefully not for a long time) for rush to pass along the golden EIB microphone, i believe mark steyn wil be the one who gets the honor!

yeah, the difference is in the propaganda that is pushed by the NEA since then. The NEA needs to be at the top of the list to crush.

He was great today. I about fell out of my chair when he said it was open line Friday because Rush couldn't find a highly trained broadcast host to sub for him.

I'm all about people furthering their education and such. But the Democrats spouting bullshit that for everyone to succeed they must attend college is the utter most fucking stupid thing I can think of. There have been a TON of very highly successful people in the private sector that never went to college. Lets not act like college is the only key to success in life.
For instance. Thomas Edison never went to college. |

Thomas Edison never went to college. I teach chemistry at a local college. This fall my class was full; by now only about half the students remain, and if the pattern holds true most have just stopped attending class and will get failing grades at the end of the semester. I don't understand why you would bother going if you have no intention of staying in class, but that's the way kids think nowadays. I think it is partly due to the fact that everyone thinks they need to go to college, and partly due to the fact that the government gives them free money to do it so if they fail they're not the ones paying for it. |

Education is the one thing that people are more than happy to pay for and not receive. - I forgot who said this but it's true.
