I've wanted an m1a variant for years.
Ar10 platforms are boring, but cheaper. I don't have much time in this state. What would GD do? |

Take a breath. AR10s, M1As, PTR91s, etc, are all for sale in California.
They will still be for sale in Colorado. |
|
Better late than never. I don;t get why you think AR10's are boring. It is a semi standardized platform that you can use to build what you want.
If you're bored with that you'll be even more bored with M1A |

The M1A Tanker, Ruger SFAR, and HK M110A1 are the only 308’s that caught my eye.
The HK is way out of my budget, the M1A just isn’t a high functioning platform, so I ended up dumping stupid money into a SFAR. Jury is still out on longevity but I love it. Minus the loaded magazine it weighs the same as a naked Tanker as pictured. Attached File ETA: Missed the Colorado thing. Aero M5 build no questions asked. Parts availability and capability to build out other uppers is where your mind should be. Having one gun you can turn into multiple different guns is the next best thing. |

Seems like a Ruger SFAR would line up with your needs, and lots of people have them here. Most of the threads/reviews I've seen are positive.

Quoted: This thread is about Colorado. View Quote So your theory is that gun banning leftists don’t learn anything from other states, don’t communicate with each other about new laws, legal battles, or anything like that? Also that proposed laws cannot be modified before the final version gets approved? Good luck with that. BTDT, we got screwed… OP is smart to buy now while he can. Not sure why anyone would not consider that a good idea. |

But it could be. At anytime.
Sorry your state sucks, even sorrier mine is following suit. @Mars87 |

AR10 is the easiest to customize
M1A is way more fun and elegant FAL is the right arm of the free world All can be had within your budget. Soon you will have all of them. Ask me how I know. |

Bite the bullet… (lol)
Fuck M1A Get an Adams Arms 12.5 pistol. Pull out of a jacket, snap upper to lower… Lay waste to anything within 500 meters |
|
M1A, ideal if you can get one with GI parts, my fav is the scout rifle or bush rifle in 18", much more handy than the full sized 22".
Get what feels best to you though, whichever you enjoy most. |
|
M1a fal and g3 are fun 308s but without a ton of mods I consider them range toys. I like the aero m5 builds but they are heavy. The SFAR is a bit more handy.
|
|
If you have only limited budget, I would just get the M1a and magazines. However, you know eventually you would want an AR10 so put aside a stripped lower and some magazines.
|
|
Buy the rifle you can afford to feed.
Got to figure you need at least 5k rounds of ammo on hand at any given time. |
|
I'd like to try a Ruger SFAR so that's my advice. Seems like a good evolution of the AR10 and pricing is reasonable.
|
|
The smart thing to do would be to actually read the bill. Pay special attention to the rifles that are specifically named, and buy the ones you want. Specifically named rifles cannot be made compliant to work around future laws. They will be banned forever and not transferable.

I shot a short M1A quite a bit, didn’t do it for me. I imagine there is going to be a shopping spree now. Prefer the AR/SFAR type anyway.

I grabbed a vepr .308 for around $1800 recently, they're fun and different, obviously not as streamlined. Also PTR, with $1800 you could grab a solid rifle with lots of accessories or an optic

Had a HK91 waaaay back. Loved it. Should have never sold it, but I wouldn't buy another 91 type.

M14 variants suck unless you just want to shoot irons. There were a few with optic rails (LRB M25, Springfield White Feather) but the optics still sit way too high without a chassis or cheek riser. Irons are cool so I won't talk too much shit.
An Armalite AR-10A2 is the pinnacle of cool. You get irons and better accuracy than a M14. These newfangled small frame rifles are neat. The PWS UXR is probably going to be the shit. As in, I may liquidate the rest of my stuff to enhance my collection if it's as good as they are saying will be. |

Scout Squad M1A for $13884.99 at KYGUNCO with QP pricing-
Scout Squad M1A Or a FAL built on an Imbel or DSA receiver. |

Attached File Attached File 308 is the best caliber. Enjoy shooting M1A's the most. But any others are good too. I'd get a M1A, then some ar10 lowers to build out later. Not sure what the state of Colorado gun laws are or going to be but that is what if do. Robinson XCR-M is probably the best overall. B&T is pretty fun but is a bit nose heavy, even after cutting the barrel to 11.5". FAL is ok but the mag situation currently sucks (supposedly DS Arms is being back steel mags but the jury is still out) and accuracy is similar to AK's. The Zastava M77 is kinda interesting but it really doesn't like ammo longer like M118LR so be mindful of that. RFB is cool, balances better than the Tavor 7 which is a brick. But the mag situation again... If you wanted a m1a for a while then get one. |

View Quote Sadly DSA seems to have spotty quality control and I don't know how easy magazines are to get. I bought an "m1a" (hate that name) but I haven't shot it. Locally mags were $50 a piece. 308 surplus is long gone. How much are you going to shoot a 308 "battle rifle"? If you think you might actually need one in some future war or on your big ranch, get a 308 AR. If you just want one for fun, how much will you shoot it? I bought a 9mm Colt AR when I moved to Utah. It's way more fun than a 308 in my opinion. It's kind of pointless from a real world gun fighting scenario, but who is really going to shoot anything but a 5.56AR if we get in the big fight with evil .gov or Martians land? |

For a little more than $1800 you could get a Sabre 10 and throw a SWFA 3-9x42 on it
Would make for a great general purpose rifle Mine has been great Attached File |

This. I have one and it's awesome. You're welcome. I've shot the SFAR, and this is better. |
