Fixed blade or folder?  And why.

I have three Benchmade folders now that I use.  The barrage is my EDC.  This would be something that goes with my first line gear.

I don't even know why I want one, but you know how it is.

Get a tomahawk.

Trust me.

ETA: If not a tomahawk, there's a lot of cool fixed blades out there.

ETA2: I have alot of incomplete thoughts. I have both a SOG tomahawk, and Blackhawk Nightedge on my firstline gear.

Tomahawk is not a bad idea, it is a different animal entirely.  Fighting knives however should be at least 1.5 edge partially serrated and have some weight to them.  A little heavy at the tip end and a heavy possibly blunt tipped pommel is A good idea as well.

Sportsmans Guide had Wenger Swiss fighting knives for cheap.

I have a SOG SEAL 2K that I use as a camp knife and I'm highly impressed with it.

I don't know anything about fighting with a knife other than try to put the poky end in the other guy.

If you want a "fighting knife" you want a fixed blade. No such thing as a folding fighting knife, IMO.

That's a great looking knife, but I'm not responsible enough to have things that look nice.

My stuff just needs to be extra durable.  I'm not into caressing most of my stuff.

Most of the time I try to see how long it takes to break it.

Well, it was the knife SOG came up with for the SEALs at their request (like SCAR rifles) as far as I know.  I agree with you, it's probably the only reason I don't have a Luminox watch, but the knife doesn't say anything about SEAL anywhere on it.

Yeah, I've looked at the Luminox watches for a long time.  The G-shocks don't have the trident and are probably just as good.  I'm don't have one for the same reason.  There are just too many people that buy stuff just because it says SEAL on it.

I looked at that knife on their site though and it looks pretty good.

The Gerber in the video posted above is the appearance I'm looking for.

I had this Randall #1 made for my father some 16 years back.

02 Swedish tool steel, black micarta handle with red, white and blue spacers and brass hilt and pommel/cap.

If you want to go 'old school' it's worth considering, although it won't be cheap.

I don't believe Fallkniven does serrations.  Opinions vary, of course, but many see little purpose to serrations other than cutting rope or maybe heavy cardboard.

I bought the same knife in December of 94'. It survived my time in the Marines, and many years after. The finish is all gone now, but it's still sharp as hell and I've even changed motorcycles tires with it. A few years ago I bought the Tigershark, I haven't abused that one yet.

I remember reading somewhere that cutting a throat wasn't like the movies. That the blade should be stuck into the side of the neck and worked forward and out the front, serrations being a bonus for working through everything. I read it, never done it, so who knows?

Learning knife fighting is a good idea.  Once you know the fundamentals then you will know what "makes" a good fighting knife

For EDC I would suggest the longest available blade that is still "legal" in your State.  In Texas thats 5.5 inches.

Now if you want a SHTF TEOTWAWKI Zombie Killing knife?.....the I would suggest the following:

Ka Bar  or

I knew a southerner once who said a dull rusty knife was best for fighting with. Dullness caused more pain, and the rust would likely cause infection.
