Trying to decide if I want to get a real or fake Holiday Tree.  I like the smell of the real ones but they are messy.  Was thinking about getting a high end holiday tree that rotates instead.

Holliday tree, what is that? Now, if you had said Christmas tree I'd have had an opinion on that.

We get a real every year. Fraiser Fir.

My daughters are 4 and two years old, so I cut two little slivers off the bottom of the tree every year and use my crafty woodburning kit to make them a Christmas ornament.

Usually the year and their name and a holiday pic, wreath, snoman, snoflakes ,

They think its neat. And they get to keep a piece of each Christmas this way.

Pretty cheesy I know. But they like it. And its the reason we get a real tree every year.

We always used to get a real one $40-60 a year.  I finally convinced my wife to get a fake one 2 years ago and it is great.  Looks good and easy to set up.  Will save money after a couple of years, think it was like 250$ on sale https://www.wayfair.com/holiday-decor/sb0/pre-lit-christmas-trees-c1797206.html

I have not had a real Christmas tree since I was a kid due to the mess. I have a nice looking fake one I can set up in no time flat with no mess.

BTW-
Do not be afraid to say Christmas tree. Let's face it, the day has less religious meaning and is more of a cultural/commercial day now. Sides, we all know that the day was lifted from Pre-Christian Holidays/Tradition, etc, so no biggie.

I got a fake tree. Less hassle.
I got a real wreath for inside the home. That thing has dropped a good number of needles already.

Do you think the tree will last long enough to get a return on your investment?

For decades we grew and cut our own Christmas trees (blue spruce) but we sold the property we had.  Every year the weak branches, poor needle retention and shit quality of commercially farmed trees pissed me off. Every year I threatened to get an artificial tree but the poor quality of affordable ones and the prohibitive price of really nice ones was always stopping us.

This year on a whim we went to Michael's arts and crafts and got a really nice pre lit tree 50% off. It took hours to get the branches adjusted and sculpted out but I think the end result was worth it.

ETA the tree cost us about $150

Grew up getting a fresh real tree every year.
had to switch to a fake when the second daughter came along and she was allergic to something on the real trees.
Used the same fake for 20 years, I assume the ex is still using that tree.
You get used to the fake after a while, but get something that looks close to real.

My wife and I bought a good quality artificial tree about 30 years ago and are still using it. For the scent, we buy a couple of real wreaths and hang them near the tree.

It's easy to keep a quality tree in good shape. Starting at the top, gather the branches together, and tie them tightly, working your way down. Our 8' tree will require about 10 ties. Cover it completely and store it in a cool, dry place. When you set it up the next year, cut the strings starting at the bottom and fluff the branches out.

We don't like pre-lit trees as we have gathered several strings of lights over the years and alternate them between clear, multicolored, red, and blue.
