The Dunkirk thread made me think of this.  There are some movies that you either love or hate, some people call them masterpieces and classics, others, steaming piles of shit.  There are also the undeniably horrible movies that no one liked (or even heard of) but the critics raved about and won shit tons of awards.

What are your best of the worst?

No Country For Old Men: Incredibly slow plot and no end.  By the time the snooze fest actually started to get interesting it was over, and it just ended apruptly with no actual conclusion.  A movie should have a beginning, middle, and an end, but this one forgot the end, and it didn’t have much of a middle either.  I also found it very weird and hard to follow, it was way to artsie fartsie to me.  Don’t even get me started on the silenced shotgun.

House of 1,000 Corpses: Just fucking weird.  Killer pscho clowns would be the easiest way to describe this one.  Was there a discerns me plot?  Not that I can recall.  It was just a crappy “art film.”  I rate that one as one of the worst movies I have ever seen, yet it launched Rob Zombie’s career as a director.  It was so bad though that I swore I would never watch another Rob Zombie movie again, because he cannot possibly make a good movie, and I haven’t.

Slum Dog Millionaire:  I never saw it, and still haven’t, and until the awards I had never even heard of it, and that’s the problem, if it was so good, why was it unknown?  This is not the only movie like this, I’m just using this one as an example.  I see this as an indicator of an “art film” that is popular with hipsters at film festivals, and that is all, no general appeal.

Avatar was highly overrated.  Very lazy remaking of westerns with the bad old white man being the root of all evil.

It was decent but it had the same problem as Enemy At The Gates, the love story sub plot.  It’s a war movie.  Love stories and war movies do not mix, they distract from each other.

If you're talking Popular just here on ARFCOM, I'd say the top two were Pacific Rim and 13 Hours.

The Blair Witch Project - horror movie with a first person point-of-view camcorder feel. Interest concept/idea. Had a lot of positive press. It started out interesting, but the ending sucked.

Just rewatched it this weekend and while a lot of faces became big stars, it tried to hard to be artsy while showing the atrocities and hardships of Vietnam.

"That's all right, she know what I mean, she don't read to good no how!"
