CLEVELAND, OH (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have announced they will be removing the divisive Chief Wahoo logo from game jerseys and caps, starting in 2019 season.

“We are people, not mascots, not logos, not imagery,” said Carla Getz, a member of the Potawatomi Tribe. Getz was one of several dozen peaceful protesters that chanted for change on a plaza outside Tuesday’s game.

How many real Indians are even left in this country?

How many real Indians are in the state of Ohio?

Are they not honored enough by the 3 gazillion "things" named after them. Within like 10 mile radius of where I sit right now I can think of several streets, monuments, parks, rivers, etc... with Indian names ... we also have multiple counties named for long since gone Indian tribes and Indians.

Baseball is "America's game," so it seems like having an MLB team named after "native Americans" would be an honor, and seen as a nod to history rather than an insult.

The complete opposite - ie "Cleveland Caucasians" - would be genuinely offensive to people who aren't white IMO.

Pro sports teams name themselves after things that have history and significance to the area, or at least things that are considered cool or tough. It's not like the other teams are the Atlanta Assholes, San Diego Shitstains, Toronto Tinydicks, etc., in which case, yeah, having a group you belong to included would be a kick in the nuts.

This is the irony of the SJWs: I always thought Native American team names/mascots were references to their warrior spirit. Yea, let's take that away, it's offensive.

I saw that interview. Seems that the Seminole Nation and FSU go way back. First college branch on the Rez. Highest graduation rate for American Indians. The Spirit Chief (guy in horseback that throws a spear to kick off the game) is the fast track in Seminole politics. Spirit Chief is elected from the Student Body by Seminoles only and he must be tribally enrolled.
