C.H.U.D scared the living shit out of me as a small child. Even in its neutered version for broadcast tv.

Now I wish there were lots of them.

If we're talking about ones that scared the shit out of us as kids:

And to a lesser extent:

Oddly enough Barlow (the head vampire dude) didn't scare me at all, probably because I'd already seen Nosferatu (which they obviously based the look of Barlow on for Salem's Lot) and Count Orlok was way, way creepier.

And, even though they're from a TV show and not a movie, these fuckers creeped me right out back then too:

You brought up Legend.  The devil in that movie was pretty freaking scary good.

As a kid, the movie Gargoyles scared the crap out of me.  I haven't seen it since I was a kid, and I haven't found it on netflix or hulu.  I want to watch it with my kids see it.

There's a 70's movie called Squirm where earthworms rise up and fuck everyone over.

Earthworms. Coming out of the water pipes, raining down from the sky, coming out of the ground, earthworms everywhere. Eating people.

I always suspected that Tremors was a ripoff of Squirm.

That was a fairly common theme in the '70s, especially TV movie sort of deals. I vaguely remember one that was about ants rising up and killing everyone and everything, big massive piles of ants...not giant ants, or mutant ants just...ants.

Now I'm sorry I remember that, it was sooooo bad.

Dude. Meg Mucklebones from Legend...voiced by the holographic Doc from ST: Voyager, Robert Picardo.

Legend is what I consider Tom Cruise's best movie.

From 1951...the two-part TV adaptation of the movie "Superman And The Mole Men" gave me nightmares in the 60's reruns of "The Adventures Of Superman".

Pasty white, little guys came up to the surface from the world's deepest oil well or some such nonsense.  They even had a vacuum cleaner-turned-ray-gun that seemed to need to be crew-served to operate, IIRC.  Those guys creeped me out for quite a while.

I don’t like horror, so while I don’t have a favorite per se, my least favorite would be the aliens from Signs.

The way the musical chord struck during the found footage scene of the kids birthday party, gave me nightmares as a kid for a long time.

there were killer frogs, ants, bees, rabbits, locusts, spiders, octopus, pirahna, barracuda... pretty much anything you can think of in the 70's

but Squirm was fucked up... it just gave you a weird feeling...
