What a tragedy, it looks better than the disgusting monstrosity that is Mexico City today.

The thousands of "not-Aztec" allies the Spaniards used to help them defeat the Aztecs probably didn't think it was beautiful.

A boatload of white guys who were aided by a shitload of natives who were tired of being enslaved, sacrificed and eaten by the Aztecs.  This is a good read on the subject-

Yes, you could buy women back then in Mexico City.  Just like today.

You could/can rent women too, then/now.

Hookers chewed gum in an exaggerated way, to advertise oral sex skills, back then and just like today.

Writing from back in the day is interesting reading.

Exactly.

The Aztec empire was hated by its neighbors.  For obvious reasons.

Cortez had no trouble enlisting allies to help him curbstomp their empire.

Before it was obvious the Spanish would win, he did have trouble getting Indian allies.  When Aztec defeat became obvious they surrounding tribes piled on.

Looks nice and pretty, but its all BS. The lake was brackish, but they where able to grow corn, beans etc? The story says 200k farmers, plus people plus churches etc. 200k farmers would have had to been half the people just to feed them all. From a google search with modern farming you can feed a family of four from 1 acre for 1 year, also per google during medieval times it took 2-3 acres to feed one person. so 200k farmers alone would take 400-600k acres. Thats a square that measures 25 miles on each side, and thats just to feed the farmers on the low side.

Eh. A grand civilization wiped out by a dude who sailed halfway across the world with whatever he could carry on a few boats? Something tells me they weren’t equipped with long term survival capability anyway.

First of all, that is virtual reconstruction, so the designers got to make it as clean and functional as they could envision.

Second, the Aztec’s social structure had been in decline for a couple hundred years before the Conquistadores arrived.

No empire lasts forever. Human history is defined by people dominating other people. The U.S. is in decline. Our fate may not be much different.

The Aztecs forced surrounding tribes to pay food tribute to them. That kept them with food.

Not a tragedy in the slightest. The Aztec's were one of the most evil cultures to ever exist on the face of this earth and their destruction instantly made the world a better place than it was with them in it.

This,  they always forget to add, the Spaniards had over 20-30,000 native allies that were preyed upon by the Aztecs that joined the Spanish to squash the Aztecs.

The media always makes it sound like it was 100 white guys that slaughtered the natives.   I guess it didn’t fit their narrative.

What did they do with the thousands of dead bodies ? ,  recycle them as fertilizer or use as fill ?   Maybe they did the Terra Preta type ag they did further south .   Article appears to be an effort at humanizing the Aztec culture for some reason .   Everybody here knows the score , good annihilation  .

False.  The Spaniards that first saw it said it was more beautiful than any European city of the time.

If ever an empire deserved destruction, it was the Aztecs.  I'd say the emergence of smallpox in the new world at that time was a net benefit.

It must be a lie - the models don't factor in climate change.

Of course it is interesting, that a culture that had slavery and human sacrifice can be considered superior because they had dark color skin.
