Will the fat lady (debt) sing?

When will our financial mismanagement stop? ever?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/house-republicans-craft-deal-to-fund-government-for-30-days-here-s-why-it-may-not-stop-a-shutdown/ar-AA1gTcOt?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=5032bca3c82a49fcab62a99727142eaa&ei=15

WASHINGTON — With the House no closer to avoiding a potential government shutdown in less than two weeks, two key factions of House Republicans have crafted a short-term, stopgap measure called a continuing resolution that would temporarily fund the government through Oct. 31.

The bill, sponsored by members of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus and the more moderate Main Street Caucus, would impose an 8% spending cut on federal agencies, but that doesn't include national defense budget, the Department of Veterans Affairs and amounts designated for disaster relief.

..............

But whether the continuing resolution can pass in the House and the Senate remains to be seen. The bill also doesn’t include provisions on Ukraine aid or extra funds for disaster relief, which President Joe Biden requested that Congress approve.

Representatives from both parties have also blasted the potential compromise.

“It’s crystal clear a Gov’t shutdown is coming. I represent 66% of the Texas-Mexico border - a hollow Continuing Resolution built to win a messaging battle does nothing to keep America safe,” Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., wrote on X, “No CR. Pass the damn approps bills. Roll back the crazy bureaucracy to pre-COVID levels. Now.”

We are running annual budget deficits larger than those that we ran in the wake of the great financial crisis to bail everything out and stimulate the economy. $1.5 trillion in additional debt each year. Imagine how much bigger these deficits will be when we're back in recession.

Didn't we just do this? Like, just a few months ago?

Things must be accelerating.

Even with a shutdown:
- Hunter Biden will continue to ride around town in a taxpayer-funded armored convoy.
- Nancy Pelosi's husband will continue to have his gay prostitutes over for hammer parties.
- Americans will get stuck paying $7/gal for gasoline, yachts for crooked Ukrainian politicians...

The government is not going to shut down. A tiny fraction of it may, mostly for PR purposes. It's akin to saying you're giving up Oreos and you're going to starve to death. But the government shuts down for Juneteenth and we manage to survive.

If there is a 'shutdown', whatever remains running will continue to do so creating a deficit. We're spending close to $6.5T a year, taking in about $4.5T, and racking up $2T in new debt, and adding to long term liabilities not even in the above numbers. And Dems are pissed we aren't spending more.

The government is in debt far beyond any realistic .level of ever being able to get spending under control. The government is like crackheads with a whole truck load of crack and no end in sight

Let me draft the budget.  House and Senate must pass it and the fake President sign it or all resign with loss of all pensions.   Then I get to name replacements as acting POTUS.

Don't shut down the Govt, why?  Well all of the Govt people not working eventually get paid for the days they don't work so its a free vacation.

Instead pass a budget with at least 10% or more across the board.   Hell, cut 10% of everything including SS.

Republicans should just tell the truth and say. 'We're getting ready to give a bunch of unionized lib government workers a few weeks off with full pay. Don't worry - they won't fall behind on their work since they don't do shit anyway. In the end, we'll cave and fuck Joe Taxpayer for 87th time.'

It's a Constitutional amendment that is long overdue.
Publicly held debt should be pinned to a percentage of GDP.

Or better yet, force Congress to pass budgets that don't exceed net receipts.

Or both.

I would like a provision to the shutdown.

After the shutdown, and congress re-opens the government, there should be no back pay for government employees since they were not working.

In the past it’s been extra vacation for gov employees, that needs to change.

Petro dollar is dying.  It started when the co-creator of the petro-dollar, Saudi Arabia, began holding assets other than the dollar on its books.  Now it annouced this year that it accepts Kenyan shillings for oil trade settlement.  A short while ago Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran attended the BRICS conference and it was decided that they (along with other nations) would be accepted into BRICS on 1/1/2024.  That means 80% of the world's petroleum reserves will be controlled by BRICS member nations.  Once Saudi Arabia formally rejects the dollar for oil trade settlement, it's over.

If you didn't know Japan sold 1/4 trillion in US Treasury Bonds this year.  China and Saudi Arabia sold $114 billion this year.

While the BRICS did not announce a gold trade note (something China already has), it was agreed that among member nations they bypass SWIFT and the dollar for trade.

I still believe the dollar will be the last man standing, but it won't buy much.

So, in response to the OP's question, it ends when the dollar is worthless.  All fiat currency returns to its intrinsic value: zero.
