Jet Li recently made his first public appearance in years while on a promotional tour for his new autobiography.

Very much alive: The 60-year-old Chinese-born Singaporean actor jokingly confirmed to the audience at a Nov. 16 press conference for his book “Beyond Life And Death: Jet Li Looking For Jet Li" in Taiwan that he is still alive.

“There are still rumors in China saying that I’ve died. It’s been 10 years,” he said with a laugh.

Addressing the rumors: During the press conference, Li said that he is surprised people still fall for online death hoaxes about him, like the one that circulated in the Philippines claiming he died on May 26, 2018. That same year, a photo in which he was deemed to appear "unrecognizable" also began circulating online, bolstering the rumor that his health was failing.

“Some people wish it’s true. Some say, ‘He’s still not dead yet? After so many reports of his death, he’s still not actually dead,’” the reclusive actor said.

Health hit: Li admitted at the press conference that his health took a heavy hit about a decade ago. He recalled losing a lot of weight due to loss of appetite while filming the 2010 drama “Ocean Heaven,” in which he plays a father with liver cancer.

He was also misdiagnosed with cancer around that time, but it was corrected after doctors found him to have hyperthyroidism instead. Li told the audience that he has been taking medication for the condition since.

"I can still live happily": Speaking about his diagnosis, Li told the audience that keeping an optimistic outlook has helped him cope with his hyperthyroidism, saying, “These are things that are correlated to each other. I have hyperthyroidism, come! Get it cured! If it cannot be cured, I can still live happily.”

I bought Mulan because Li is in it. Still haven't watched it, and won't, because I know it's awful.
But I still had to add it to the Jet Li shelf.

New name:

Ho Lee Fuk

He doesn't appear to have gotten fat, but talk about aging like milk...

*** I do recall reading that the dude (used to?) smoke like a chimney, though. And there's no question smoking ages your appearance (some of the aging studies have shown identical twins with different habits. The ones where one smoked/drank and the other didn't, are stark.

I remember a Donnie Yen interview where he was talking about being in a Jet Li film.
Basically something to the effect of how fast Jet is and that there is a high chance he would be hit during filming if he couldn't keep up  the pace.

"....another Jet Li film and I know I'm going to be sore" or along those lines.

Ironically, I think Scott Adkins said something similar about Donnie Yen when they filmed Ip Man 4.
Something about Donnie wouldn't hold back his punches. Filming that one fight scene took 3 days, and he said
it was the most brutal 3 days he's ever done. lol.

He just needs some hair plugs and better hookers and he’ll be back to his old self. Chinese movies probably don’t pay enough for that though.

I doubt he was 35 in the first picture. I'd always heard that Li was a good deal older than he presented. Someone told me he was in his 50's when he did Kiss of the Dragon or Danny the Dog (can't recall). I think he could have some hypothyroidism, but I also think he may be older than he presents.

When he says he was misdiagnosed with cancer I wonder if they started cancer treatments on him?  That could definitely have taken a toll on him.  His fast paced acting style and doing a lot of his own stunts certainly didn't help; I'm sure he's busted up to some degree like Jackie Chan (being a raging alcoholic seems to have taken a big toll on Chan though).

Hyperthyroidism isn't a joke in the long term.

It's not like burning the candle from both ends, it's like pouring ligther fluid on the whole candle and lighting it off.

Go to sleep and wake up more tired than when you went to sleep.

Be surprised if they haven't irradiated him with radioactive iodine or surgically removed his thyroid.

That was not a good one.

I'd say 87% of his filmography ranges from "decent fun" to "epic". But there are a few that are hot garbage.
