I used to race mtb in my 20s and trained on the road with a small group of guys. Only one was gay out of the 5 regulars. Loved that guy. Super professional, fantastic athlete, hilarious as well. Told me once he got a "ball tuck" bc 25 years of cycling had done a number on his sack lol. He was in his 40s and racing with the best local 20s guys. He volunteered for some great charities and got me involved.
I'd say the gays in cycling are an equal representation of society at large. |

As a recent/new cyclist, yes, gay as shit with the tights, but I can still see the aerodynamic side. I'm out there in running shoes, nike mesh shorts, and a bunch of Kuiu gear for cold weather, albeit on a top of the line expensive as shit bike. It's a lifestyle for them, for me, it's just one more training tool. If you don't have a road bike, I do recommend considering it. I rotate it with my runs and it's significantly more fun than a run.
When it comes to blocking traffic, it's such a rare occurrence that hardly lasts more than a minute with those packs of riders. I still don't know how bicycles got approved on the roads and don't think they should be, but since it's legal, I'm going to continue to do it. |

I used to live right on USBR 76, and can't say it was ever a problem.
Ironically, the cars/trucks that seemed to have the problems with cyclists would also be the ones who, themselves, wouldn't use the slow vehicle pull-offs after passing the cyclists to let other vehicles pass them ... because there's no way that they, themselves, are a slow vehicle, oh never.  This was a much bigger nuisance than the cyclists. |

I think the bike suits the cyclists wear look goofy,
but their choice to wear them doesn't bother me. What grinds my gears is the mega pack riders that drive out to the country from the cities and suburbs, passing the taxpayer-funded bike paths in their own areas that they demanded be built. They ride two or three abreast on dangerous backcountry roads with sharp turns and blind curves, without the decency (or good sense) to ride single file or move over when being overtaken by motor vehicles. Small groups of courteous cyclists I can live with. |

It's sprinkling too much to ride my bike today, I don't mind riding in it, I just don't feel like cleaning it afterwards.
I have 3 bikes, none of them road bikes, not because I don't want to ride one, I'm just unable to ride like that anymore and I don't like crashing. But it helps with my replaced knees and gets me out of the house. My newest bike is a dahon vybe, a folder!! I put soma sparrows on it because the straight bar hurt my wrists. I like being able to park where it's easy and free, then I ride my bike the rest of the way. |

I like riding, mostly MTB, but I'm on the road a lot too. I do understand how roadie groups can be a bit obnoxious when they stack 2 deep laterally into the road, I also know most of the guys that bitch about them are unfit....Roadie outfits are a bit much but to each his own.

I think the getups are a bit silly unless it's a race or serious training session. I find it highly annoying when some cyclists are discourteous to other travelers.
I ride a little, but try to stick to low traffic roads and always try to not be a nuisance. If someone wants to pass I'll do what I can to facilitate it, not try to be a dick and prevent it like some real assholes. I don't feel comfortable on major roads/highways. All it takes is one clown not paying attention and you're road kill. |

I could almost understand the real competitive ones that ride on the side of the road, not quite understand but almost, but what I don't get is why an elderly dude who is casually riding at 5-10mph needs to also be on the road when there is a perfectly good sidewalk 5 feet to high right? Makes no sense to me. I see this shit all the time, casual bike riders going 5-10mph putting their lives at risk by riding on the side of the road when there's a sidewalk just FEET away.
Usually, I roll down my window and yell at them to get off the fucking road before they get run over. If you are a competitive hard core bike-bro and eeking every last ounce out of your rig fine I get it. Al least you are risking your life for some high performance application. I still don't agree but it's your life to risk not mine. But the old people and casual bikers puttering along on the side really make me laugh. Get on the sidewalk FFS LoL. |

Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in almost every municipal code. For the record, streets were not invented for cars. They were invented for cyclists. But vehicle drivers don't understand that they are legally required to share the road with cyclists, and that cyclists get the right of way in most situations.
