Big enough to carry a few torpedoes, mines, or missiles on long patrols, built by American military drone company Anduril partnering with 10 Australian companies, delivered on budget and a year ahead of schedule. Two more prototypes are under construction to complete a $140 million contract signed in mid-2020, which is an impressive turnaround. Industrial 3D printing was reportedly key to the manufacture. The US Navy recently took delivery of the similar Orca drone prototype by Boeing, but three years late and a quarter billion dollars over budget.
This week Anduril and General Atomics were also selected by USAF - rejecting proposals from aerospace defense titans Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman - to build and test prototypes of the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, AKA Loyal Wingman, which USAF would like to buy about 1,000 of to assist legacy aircraft and be the semi-expendable sword arm of the next generation air superiority fighter, NGAD. Australia is also a leader in Loyal Wingman-type drones with the Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat in testing, initial operational status expected in 2025 and construction of a factory to begin serial production in Australia just announced, also hoping for significant export orders. Perhaps hinting at the corporate culture, Anduril was the name of Aragorn's sword in Lord of the Rings. Anduril Industries is all of seven years old, founded by tech goofball Palmer Luckey. Luckey got rich selling his Oculus Rift VR headset company to Facebook about 10 years ago and founded Anduril after he was fired from Facebook for supporting Trump. He's got a hot sister who is married to boat-rocking Congressman Matt Gaetz. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

If you're brave enough. Doesn't look big enough to carry any missile of consequence.

Kinda cute to know that weapons companies have emerged and are thriving because of their petty little political games. |

View Quote That thing is really cool. I think it makes a good case that in the not too distant future it will become relatively easy for a private citizen with certain resources to have the capability to fuck up a nation state. |

The potential of a few drone subs working (being controlled) with attack subs is a considerable force multiplier.
The implications cannot be understated. |

View Quote Something that can hide on the sea floor in coastal areas and not have to worry about keeping a crew alive? Just the intelligence gathering potential is pretty nifty. To say nothing about the possibility of murdering an entire enemy fleet in the first few days of a war. |

This company is doing some cool stuff. Turns out, wealthy patriots can do things quicker and more financially responsible without DEI and a squad of paid off congressional leaders

I thought that drone was much smaller. |
