I wonder what they get per square foot in rent in comparable locations with the same foot traffic in NYC.
I can't imagine the amount of cash that must run through this place on a daily basis. IF the guy is paying almost 650,000 a year to be there and was profitable there must have been a good million flowing through there in cash. I wonder if NYC throws in a business carry permit for the person who rents the place? |

That is like $1700 a day. I can't imagine how many dogs he would have to sell to turn a daily profit after that space rent. It is clear he couldn't sell enough.

I think I recall a hot dog running like 3 bucks at that stand the last time I was there. Thats 18000 hot dogs to make monthly rent, not factoring in drinks.
Although, to be honest I kind of liked the cafeteria food at the Met. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't bad either. |

I don't know that's what he charges, that's just numbers I divided out offhand...... And that is just to cover the rent––still no "profit". Even at $5 (and I'd guess they cost more than $5 but less than $10) it'd be 360 hot dogs a day to pay the rent. Not impossible to imagine. ––––- Stunning to think about though, isn't it? Holy crap. Never would have guessed that a hot dog stand would make that kind of money. How long had he been there? Just wondering if he had been there for 5 years and just got behind this year, or was it loosing from the start? I work in restaurants, $650k in rent would mean with food cost, you'd have to be doing almost $1.5 million in sales to make money.

Last spring somebody was asking for advice on pricing his hot dogs, I think specifically combo meals and costs associated with condiments, and, a member or two started doing hot dog math, and it was pretty interesting looking at their costs, and other issues. It was a pretty cool discussion. |

Frankly, this seems like a winner. You bid for a highly prized spot with high traffic. You sell the shit out of your product while refusing to pay the city their cut. Make sure all your money is spread out in offshore accounts in secretive countries. By the time they figure it out, you're a millionaire and you take your money, move back home, wherever that is, or fly to the Caribbean and you live like the fucking Pharoh for all your born days.
