It's off at WMD getting Nickel Boron coated, then a top coat of Cerakote Burnt Bronze to the exterior. Plastics will remain black. Levers and controls will remain black. Markings will be done in black over the top of the Burnt Bronze. Even the optic and weapon light is getting Cerakoted. I'm craving both a 9mm AR, and an NSR handguard right now. Well done, you bastard. |

Thanks guys. It has been a fun innovative build. A little different than others I've seen. Here is another black Noveske I put together. It's only black for now, it's also being coated in Nickel Boron on all the internal parts (except the trigger/selector/small pins) and the receivers. Then a topcoat of Burnt Bronze is being applied in Cerakote. I'm still waiting on this build's black magazines and its Aimpoint T1. http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/001-1.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/006-2.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/004-1.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/005-2.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/003-1.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/007-2.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/010.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h417/Zzyzx313/Noveske/009-1.jpg That is beautiful! Does anybody make a light mount that attaches to the top rail like that that doesn't require the use of a Troy front sight? |

NiB takes on Cerakote?
The finish is so slick I doubt it will take the paint. |

Muzzle brake is a Titanium Supercomp talon. 3.5 ounces.
I haven't shot it yet though. I didn't fully assemble it since I was expecting to tear it down for refinishing. The Noveske 16" stainless barrel was sent for Nitride saturation. Basically it'll be a longer lasting barrel and the stainless barrel will be black on the inside and the outside. Mossie Tactics makes a few variants of the 12 o'clock mount. Most of them attach to a standard front sight base. I'm a fan of their product, it drops the light approximately .7". This really helps keep the sight picture remain clutter free, particularly with my absolute co-witness LaRue Aimpoint T1's. The keymod system of the Noveske NSR is truly the way to go. You get to retain a free float barrel with an extremely lightweight rail system. My 7" NSR weighs 4.4 ounces with the barrel nut. That's before I modified it. I ended up cutting approximately .7 ounces off of it. The 13.5" NSR weighs in at 7.9 ounces with the barrel nut. Not only is it lightweight, but it is very thin. Your entire hand can wrap around it quite easily. The only time it is a bad choice is if you're assembling an integrated suppressor design. Handling the NSR really makes my MRP feel like a boat anchor. I heard recently that ADCO will modify a standard upper receiver to use the Noveske anti-rotation pin. I think when they make it back home, they'll be taking a trip there for the job. I don't see the barrel nut ever coming loose on its own, but the pin will help with aligning the rail to the upper. |

I'm not sure if they can paint over the Nickel Boron, or if they just blast off what has adhered to the exterior, then paint it with the Cerakote. From what I know, they coat the part completely with Nickel Boron in a submersion tank. Then if a top coat is requested, they probably rough up the exterior with a bead blaster, then apply the Cerakote.
I know NP3 and NP3+ are no-go for top coats. Of my builds I have going right now, I think I'm most excited about the Benelli M4 I'm doing. |
