The following is totally subjective opinion, and you know what they say about opinions - so YMMV.
Don't own an upper from either one - several Colts, a BCM, a CMMG, a PWA (from the 80's), an FN, an NDS and a C7-type that based on forge codes is apparently a USGI replacement but the minority opinion is it could be a Bushmaster. None of the above have any markings on the upper beyond forge codes. Me personally, I'd avoid an upper with some logo on it like the plague, just because it looks cheesy. I mean, would you want to be running around Da Nang or The Mog or Helmond with a spider or a Hello Kitty or something on your rifle?
I'm considering an Anderson lower and buffer tube kit just because they are the cheapest I can find in stock on line, to slap together a Franken-AR out of all the loose parts otherwise accumulated since my first build in 1989 - as a training rifle for my 14 yo son. For that application I'd go with whatever was cheapest (even a Hello Kitty, except for fear the boy would refuse to shoot it), which as of today just happens to be Anderson. For a serious application (home defense, LE patrol carbine, going to exotic foriegn lands to meet exotic foreigners and kill them, doing the Red Dawn thing, the zombie apocalypse, etc... ) I would not go with Anderson or Spikes (or CMMG), and if that's all I could afford I'd go with an AK instead of an AR.
