Well dammit, I think I just got ripped off on some old piece of shit Ruger 10/22 Carbine I bought off some local classified page. I ended up paying twice what it cost new unfortunately!
I see this ad go up on a local classified page I scope out (no pun intended) from time to time. Ad is for a used Ruger 10/22 Carbine, also includes a scope and a leather case. Asking price is $100.00 dollars.
The ad is only two minutes old so I respond and say "I'll take it". I've been wanting one for my 7 year old daughter so hey, why not right? I setup a meet time and a place etc. Guy gives me the serial number so I can do a little research and I find that it was manufactured in 1966. Turns out the rifle belongs to a family friend. The daughter found it after her father died, she doesn't like guns and just wanted it gone. I've been looking for a used .22LR for my 7 year old so I figured why not buy it for her. ;)
So anyway I go to pick it up and obviously something is wrong with it because it appears to have never been fired. I mean I'm guessing it just doesn't work or something because why else would you not fire a rifle right? Anyway inside the box was the original sales receipt. The guy only paid $52.00 dollars for it new at his local "gas station". Man oh man did they rip me off! I paid $100.00d dollars! SIGH! Last time I buy something from a classified page, for real!
For real though... I believe they really had no idea what it was worth when they posted it. As I was doing research and speaking to the seller I disclosed it was worth more than $100.00 dollars. They honored the original asking price though as it was for my 7 year old daughter and I don't intend to ever sell it. I've been wanting to get my hands on an early 1980's or older 10/22 for years. No plastic crap-tasic parts. The receiver is machined, not pot cast bullshit. The wood is amazing quality! Did I mention it appears to be unfired?
