How cool is this??
when dealing with the black rifle "cool" is not important! Does it work well?
Several questions:
How well does it work? How much does it weigh? How long is it in comparison to an A2? What does it cost? |
Can the sling stud in the 2nd pic be placed on the other side for us damn lefties?
Of course cool IS important. As far as function, it would seem to work just fine as a buttstock. Not like that is a high tech piece of equipment anyway it is made.
Why does it need the lower rod?
I think it would look better (and certainly weigh less) with just the buffer tube part and the buttpad. |
It's just shy of A1 length, and it has a removeable buttpad(not pictured) that extends it to almost A2 length. It seems VERY sturdy, it's at least as light as an A2 stock, it's comfortable and the cushioned buffer tube cover mediates temperature.
MSRP is supposed to be $89.95, plus $14.00 for the buttpad/extension. The sling swivel is ambidextrous, and in a pretty handy spot. I was planning to get the new Entry Stock by RRA, but after I saw it in person at the SHOT Show, I decided to explore other options. While I was thinking about it, I ran into the ACE LTD booth, and saw this one. I handled their demo rifle, and knew right away I had to have one. [edited to correct $$ amount.] |
The lower rod adds support, and keeps the buttplate from twisting. It's a very strong design, made from "thick walled .060 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminum"(copied from their literature). |
From a traditionalist's point of view, I think it's just plain fugly.
But that's just my $.02 worth. ColtShorty GOA KABA COA JPFO SAF NRA "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them." |
I like it.
I'd like to see one in person BUT I think I may go with that over a post-ban M4 knock off for my next carbine. edited to ask for link to ACE Ltd. web site ?? |
Personally I disagree with paterpk. We are always saying "Wow, I just got a new toy!!!"
True, function is very important when dealing with a black rifle. But some of us (or me at least) have at least one ar15 for the purpose of a toy only. As long as safety is satisfied. Which is appears to be. Then coolness is certainly a factor on said toy. I guess in short: I WANT ONE!!! I would go with the buttpad though. Now how do I buy one online? |
I have a folding model for my ZM, it's well made and light. The folding mechanism can be improved though. Ace's web site doesn't reflect the new stock yet
A while back...I took my A1 Stock and removed the Buffer Tube and Butt Plate. Then I screwed the Butt Plate onto the Buffer Tube. It looked Cool, but I realized after a while that under repeated fire that the Butt Plate was eventually going to give out. It looked nice, but lacked the proper support to keep it from breaking under fire.
The Butt Plate was not tight enough against the Buffer Tube to prevent it from having some play. This play after a few rounds would grow. This is the probable reason they used a support. Now, I would like to see a faux G3A4 Style Stock on an AR-15. Did I mention I like the design ? |
I figured it made more sense to have this on the shorty than the fake non-collapsible, collapsible-style M4 buttstock it replaced.
I've got an M4 style collapsible on my preban PWA, and the fake one on my Bushmaster was starting to bug me. Sure it looked cool, but that was because it looked like something it WASN'T. I think this one looks cool for other reasons. Mainly because it's innovative, and not just a copy of something else built strictly for looks. You can see part of the buttpad in the second pic, under the magazine. I bought it as an extra, and I don't think I'll need it on a 9mm. It's not yet available on their website, www.riflestocks.com. They didn't even have any literature specific to this model, or installation instructions printed yet when I got this one. They just made it "public" at the SHOT Show... |
I was thinking about getting an Entry Stck, why did you change your mind? They look nice on the website, did they not look so good in real life? I hear they are supposed to be as long as a collapsed telestock, correct? Av. |
I just wasn't happy with the way the buttplate matched up with the buttstock on their display models, like the mold had been cut wrong. The middle of the buttstock was a little wider than the middle of the buttplate, and stuck out a little to the sides. Not a big deal, but big enough to tell me to wait and see if later production corrects that problem. their other new products looked exceptional. Yeah, the entry stock was about the length of a collapsed telestock. It seemed more comfortable though. |
Somebody's got one on e-bay already, for $125.00. Item# 1803379412
Not a bad idea. I think that I kind of like it in a weird sort of way.
TREETOP, Is that just Styrofoam pipe insulation covering the buffer tube? Also... does the stock replace the factory buffer tube or simply slip over it? |
Thats not right! |
I want one do we know when they will be widely available?
john |
I like the looks of it and will probably get one when they become available.
OOooohhhh, yummy!!!!!!!!!
I gotta have one. I can attest to Ace's quality. But I don't see it on their website yet. |
Does the foam that covers the buffer tube come off?
I might like it if the top tube was not covered with the foam. It would almost look like the ZM stock then... |
Preferences.... I kinda like the foam. Some sound deadening of the buffer and spring, , more comfortable, non-slip cheek weld, less noisy when getting hit from the outside by whatever. This thing will be perfect on my .40 S&W upper. |

It looks like a better idea than the fake collapsible stocks. I guess it's ok, but I won't be buying one. Watch-Six
I've gotta have one and I especially like the short length (just shy of an A1).
I've always thought someone should come out with a stock exactly like this one.
I just love the way it looks. I just ordered mine! |
And I just ordered mine. Damn, you guys cost me a lot of money showing this kind of stuff.
yeah, it is there on ebay under item#1803379412, but you cant find it by searching for that number for some reason; instead search for:

Gotta Have one,
Will they work with a DPMS spacer and the Butt Pad??? |
Does anyone know the outside diameter of the tube?
I'm just curious if a C.A.R. cheek-rest will fit on it. |
I see some advantages to this stock, namely light weight and A1 length. I want one without the buttpad spacer, but it's going to have to wait since I have some other projects going on right now. [:\]
Pretty, col, but the price is on the high side. With that said there's a good chance I'll buy one from his next batch.
Send the manufacturer this thread and he's just gotten a ton of free market research done for him. |
Just to clarify, I'll add some more details. This stock uses the standard A1/A2 buffer tube from your regular stock, so it doesn't include one. This will only be an issue if you currently use a Carbine stock/ buffer/ buffer spring, as I was doing. I had an extra rifle buffer and spring, but I had to buy a new rifle buffer tube(receiver extension). Make sure you use a rifle buffer and spring, or your carrier key will be involved in an unwanted collision. The padded tube fits on over your buffer tube, so the stock could be used without the padding if you want. He said the replacement pads were to be available, for under $5.
Treetop, that looks BAD!If it's not too much trouble how about a pic of it without the foam.
ACE probably isn't open on Sunday and I can't wait till Monday....I wonder what Bobs home # is. I gots to haves me one of these. |
Just picture it with a smooth tube instead of the padding. The buffer tube I got is kinda shiny, almost a purple color. I had it like that at first while mocking it up, and it looked cool, but I definitely like it better with the padding. Metal gets pretty cold and pretty hot, and it's nice to have a padded surface against my cheek. |
Treetop, thanks for turning us on to this new product.Every time I think I've got everything I need something like this comes along.I guess no matter how old we get we've still got that little boy in us.
ditto now why did you have to go and put that "thing" on a perfectly good ar. my vote goes for fugly |

I bought one from jdtactical on Ebay on the 8th. I paid regular shipping. I just got it in the mail TODAY (11th)!!! I just thought you guys should know about jdtactical and his FAST SHIPPING!!! |
