I'm getting ready to order a Hapstone RS sharpener as an upgrade to my Spyderco Shaprmaker to use for a few EDC blades.  Will the basic silicone carbide stones serve me well enough or should I step up to something else?  I'm just looking for a good general ourpose edge.  I don't need a mirror polised edge.

Diamonds are probably going to be the best.  Much faster at removing steel and capable of achieving very sharp edges, especially when stropped. If you have blades made with any of the new "super steels" you will want diamond stones.
