I finally got my service rifle. What is the best approach for doing alot of dry firing. Empty chamber, snap caps, or one of these: http://www.creedmoorsports.com/shop/AR-15-M16_Service_Rifle_Dry-Fire_Device.html

In the Marines, we spent literal days doing nothing but dry-firing M14's and M16's. Never had or saw a problem with it.

The concerns about dry-firing are mostly ancestor worship, dating back to the days of big-bore rimfires. Don't worry about it.

The little orange plastic insert does help with wear and tear over the long term...
The hammer strike is onto plastic and at a lower velocity.
The trigger surface isn't going to benefit since it is fully functioning, but the f-pin, hammer, springs, and pins will certainly benefit.
You have to consider that the cycle count in this issue is in the thousands.
You won't know there is a difference unless the view is taken over many thousands of cycles.
The question is will that matter if the trigger wear forces all those other parts to change at the same point, in which case nothing was saved.

For me it's easier to use the device and not break position that much by needing to pull the bolt fully to the rear.  With the device installed you only need just a touch over 1/4 inch to reset the hammer.

Or you can use a piece of fuel line hose inserted in the BCG

I have not tried fuel line hose, does that stand up very well?
