| I have always noticed that there a 1,001 Women's Self-Defense classes out there. Why aren't there any self-defense course for men? Would you take one if a company offered it? What would you expect to learn? |

Excellent point Usagi, but most standard martial arts are very "form" based. I myself study kickboxing and BJJ, but those will only help me in certain situations on the street. And a good point by you, BSJ. Form based martial arts are not to be studied if self defense is the goal. They are better served for recreational purposes. Kickboxing, BJJ, and other "live training" arts are the better choice for self defense. But all readers should be aware that no martial art - nor combination of martial arts - can prepare a person 100% for what they might see in a real altercation. Good "combat arts" (BJJ, kickboxing, boxing, judo, MT, wrestling, etc.) just give you a higher % of effectiveness. |

I have seen Krav Maga before, looks pretty cool. They go over things like disarming someone pointing a gun at you, and other tactics you won't learn with other martial arts. I was able to find this, as it is somewhat local to me. You can probably find something similar in your area:
