What experience does everyone have with the Tactical rifle videos both I and II from Magpul Dynamics?  I have a strong knowledge of the tactical carbine but am looking for a training aid to advance my skills without spending the $$$ to go to a training course.

The Videos are solid.  A great supplement, but not a replacement.

Keep saving your money, and take a course.

get the videos, take the courses.

you can't learn swordsmanship from a book, but you can becomes a better swordsman from one.

edit: BTW, the videos are the best out there period and the class is top notch you cant do better.  Which ever order you end up with, video first or class first you will be a better shooter.

I would say the optimal way would be as follows. It worked well for me for flight training.

1. Watch the videos to get an idea of the basics and what to expect, but do not practice the drills (if learned incorrectly they could become training scars which are harder to overcome)
2. Take the course. Apply what you learned in the videos
3. Watch the videos and practice the drills on the drills disk as a refresher.

Allow me to ramble between phone calls.  Hope this makes some sense...

What experience do I have?  Well, I was there when they filmed.  LOL.

I've taken several classes with Chris Costa over the past few years and believe he is one of the best instructors with whom you can train.  I've not attended classes with Travis, but believe he is also a top notch instructor.

My company has also hosted several Magpul classes including some private classes for local LE.  The attendees have been a mix of local (county level) LE and federal agents.  All had nothing but praise for Chris and his training style.  This short promo piece was shot during one of these classes.  Most of the guys in this are actually firearms instructors for their respective departments and the vast majority are also SWAT (hence the title).

Videos are a great tool.  So are books, magazines, the internet, etc.  But like already stated they are limited and may also only give you part of the story.  There are not a substitute for hands-on training under a qualified instructor, but rather are a supplement to what you learn in the classes.  In other words, you can't buy the videos, practice the drills you see on screen and then expect to transform into Super Mall Ninja Space Shuttle Door Gunner.  LOL.

Save your money and take a class.  You don't know what you don't know until you actually take a class.  Trust me on that.  If you want to seriously improve your skill level you won't do it better than attending a good class and Magpul tops the list for me.

Since you are in GA I would also suggest you look for us hosting one-day classes with Erik Lund from USSA.  These are one-day "crash courses" that will teach you a lot in a short time.  I like to take instruction from multiple sources to pick and choose what works best for me.  Heck, I still disagree with Costa on the slings I like.  Ha, ha.

Anyone serious about training needs to take a Magpul class.

Best regards to ya,

Mark

Were you the guy in the video not wanting to try new things.. hahaa.. jk.    Me and my girl watched it last night and thought the DVD's were amazing.   So good in fact that we both would like to take a Magpul basic class soon if they ever come to Houston tx.  Were ordering all the gear for it now little by little.
