Hello all,

I've been shooting IPSC for a few months now, and would like to start learning more about CMP as well. However, since it feels like a completely different beast, I'm a little lost on where to start.

I'm thinking of getting this DPMS CMP Upper for my service rifle; what do you guys think?
It will be placed on top of a Surplus Arms stripped lower, RRA 2 Stage NM LPK, and A2 stock from Model 1. Will this be legal?

Also, I'm very lost on what all the different rear and front sight specifications mean. Can someone give me a quick lecture and possibly tell me which sight aperature size is the best?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the sport!

My advice, for what it's worth, is read all you can before you buy.  Since you are from IL, this is first place I'd go:

Illinois Highpower

Konrad has a great wealth of information there.  Another great site is US National Match

National Match

As far as Service Rifle uppers, it doesn't get any better than White Oak Armament for a great starter.  And John is located in IL too.

White Oak Armament

Get in touch with John Holliger from White Oak. He is also from IL and builds the best uppers in the sport. He is an accomplished service rifle shooter and can advise you on what aperture and post size you need. You can trust his advice, he is not going to sell you what you don't need. The season just ended so you have plenty of time before spring.
