Folks I apologize if this has been covered already but I can't find anything close on ARFCOM or in the rules. "Front Sight. A standard M16 front sight must be fixed in the same location as it is on the M16 A2." I'm wondering about the approved options for the front sight. I have recently built a "service rifle" for personal use. I am not a competition shooter BUT may consider it in the future if I find some time. When I built the rifle I used a KNS cross hair style front sight on the WOA, windage adjustable, front sight tower. The profile of the rifle I believe is compliant BUT I'm not sure if that style sight is compliant. Like I said above I'm not a competition shooter so I don't even know if it's an accurate configuration but to this point I think I'm shooting quite well with it compared to my other attempts at shooting irons at 100 and 200 yds. is the KNS "cross hair" sight a go or no go option? ETA: Also read this from SGT_GOLD: "Since the rules state that an AR-15\M-16 rifle must be the same 'as issued' by the military, and the only two variants allowed are the A2 and A4 models, the A1 handguards would technicaly be a violation of the rules. Since modified sights are allowed, the front sight shouldn't be an issue. The two clubs I shoot HP with are prety lax about rifle configuration during club matches, but follow the letter of the law for leg matches." |
Thanks airgun1 - that's exactly what I assumed. I guess it's more a common sense thing but I would think they would specifically address it in the rules. |
I got you - so it isn't even an advantage to begin with at the longer ranges. |

| I never said it was a viable option for match rifle, just a legal one. The sights issue is addressed specifically in the rules. Rule 3.1.2 says "The front and rear sights must be the standard design. The rear sight aperture and front sight width may vary in dimensions to suit the shooter. The rear sight aperture may be hooded." |
